It is possible to mate the headers to the catback with a y pipe kit. You would still see some gain because the main choke point of the stock exhaust is the manifolds.

 

i was going to do it at a local muffler shop but he told me i will only lose performance if i put them on. he told me the headers on my car are best for it. i told him there restrictive manifolds. so he lost my business because his father knows alot more them him.
you guys think there a big difference in hp/tq in the stock exhaust and aftermarket exhaust?

 

exhaust is a supporting mod.

It will free up horsepower by getting rid of a bottleneck. It will also contribute the more you mod. If you add heads you will see more gain then if you still had the manifolds.

If heaven forbid you still had a restrictive stock exhaust on a built motor the restriction could be enough that you start blowing exhaust gaskets.

 

k. but is the stock exhaust restricted? i mean if i add the headers will it cause problems with the stock exhaust.

 

The stock manifolds and Y pipe is the most restrictive part.

Yes the OEM catback is restrictive but not nearly as much. You will still notice a gain in power if you install headers and an aftermarket y pipe; even if you have the stock catback.

Save up for a nice catback system. You can get away with the stock catback for the time being

 

The stock Y-pipe is what kills power, especially on the single cat cars. You will see a nice gain from headers even with the stock exhaust. I'm running stepped headers and still channel it to the stock cat back out back. I hate drone and want a quiet car for my 75 mile round trip commute. Stop and go traffic with a loud stalled auto gets old quick, and I don't mind looking stock :devil:

The stock mufflers are pretty restrictive though, I plan on pulling the cat back off when I head to the track. If you are into street racing look into an electric cutout or a more free flowing exhaust.
