Hi i have an automatic 97 formula firebird and i was wondering what the gear ratios are, i think its 2:73s but im not sure. If anyone knows for sure that would be awesome, o and its stock so it should be the stock gears.

one of the easiest ways to tell is this. does your shifter have a selectable first gear? as in, on your gear selector, where it says P R N OD D, does it go 2 then 1, or does it just stop at 2? If it stops at 2, then you have the 2.73's. Also, if you'll look on your options sheet, in your console, look for the option code listed as either GU2 or GU5, GU2 will be the 2.73, and the GU5 will be the 3.23's. It will be listed towards the end of the options.

K i dont have a 1st gear on my selector so i guess i have 2.73s. Thanks alot. But one more quick question, if i upgrade to 3.73s will i gain a first gear on my shifter? I have a friend who has an lt1 and it only reads second thru 4th like mine, but he can pop his back past 2nd and hit first, i dont know what gears he has or anything i just know that from driving it once, so i was wondering if this would be due to changing the gears?

just swaping the gears alone will not allow you access to the 1st gear position, from what ive heard to be able to put the shifter into 1st, you have to take apart the center console and grind away a metal tab which is what stops you from getting into 1st

copied from the f-body.og FAQ:

"Lift off shifter cover, locate plastic (nylon) stop at the right side of the notched selector ramp, use a hacksaw or X-acto blade to remove the offending (square) stop. Then you will have first gear."

There ya go. :)
