What code scanner do I need? 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula

I have a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula 5.7L 6-speed manual trans.

My check engine light is on again (shocker) and I no longer have a scanner available to me.

I want to clearly state I'm not posting this for help with my engine.

What scanner will work with my car? I know that jumping pins doesn't work and other diagnostic tools don't work. I need something cheap preferably.

Why didn't I think of that.
If you have a laptop, you can get a special cable that hooks dlc to usb port of laptop. Then you can download the trial version of DataMaster, good for 20 free scans. It not only scans for codes but does running data logs that can be played back in real time. Get cable at www.aldlcable.com or TunerCat DataMaster available to download at tunercat site.

If you get a cable, I can also send you a copy of the scan program called freescan. It's a pretty good program, it just doesn't have the data playback in real time like DataMaster does. But like the name implies, it's free for all time. Pm me with your e-mail address if you want freescan.
