I've got an 06' GTO and I've been hearing a small thud when shifting, it happens in spurts after being driven a distance. Any ideas on what it might be? I see some rust on the rear axles.

I'm not real familiar with the gto, so start with the basics. Check you trans mount. Don't just do a visual check. Insert a pry bar and see if trans moves up & down.

4th gen ls1 equipped f-bodies have a torque arm that connects rear end to trans. If your gto has one, make sure it is securely mounted at both ends & rubber mounting is in good shape.

Look at exhaust system. Are rubber mounts in good shape? Or are they letting exhaust pieces bang against body under high torque.

Check these out and we're go from there when you report your findings.
