hey everyone. i am doing a total rebuild on my 93 trans am lt1. the motor will be built totally back to stock. but i want to put down bigg numbers with the car. what would be the best cam for my setup and get the most power and still be able to drive the car as a daily driver if i wanted to? is anything else necessary for a nice hp boost on the motor??

Thanks!!!

hot cam will be fine ? what hp number your looking to get. I think the biggest cam on stock set up is a 503
You want big numbers from a totally built to stock motor? Get nitrous.
From everything I've read.. if you just do a cam the most your gonna see is around 20 HP... Gotta let er breath or bore/stroke if you want real HP gains.. or yeah supercharge or nitrous are options.. ide agree the hotcam or 503 are good cans if thats all ya wanna do.
Go full bolt ons and then decide what cam you want. I'm going with a cam a little more aggressive then the CC503
Hey KAWAI GUY,What is your idea of big numbers???? ed

well i guess its notreally big numbers but what would i need to to do get around 400rwhp? i have a 2006 ls2 gto putting down 425rwhp and i want the trans am to leave it behind lol. because of the weight difference i dont need 425rwhp
You'll need heads cam full bolt ons tune injectors and a built performance shortblock with a big 230+ duration .550 lift cam and 6500+RPM racelong tube headers etc to get 425HP at the wheels. Flywheel 425 can be had with CC503 cam and good heads.

I agree as stated earlier Nitrous oxide injection (100-150hp) stock shortblock. Run a mild cam and good 3 or 5 angle valve job. Port stock manifolds or run mid length headers hotcam and 100hp Nitrous should get there. Need larger injectors walbro 255gph fuel pump and tune for the Nitrous.
Ok so if I go the nitrous route someone enlighten me about the dos and don't with nitrous? And everything I would need to get it spraying safely. I've always Been scared of nitrous because I don't want to mess the brand new motor up...
WET kit for sure... , fuel pressure safety switch . nd dont spray below 3k; I've run my wet kit for 10 yrs..I finally blew a headgasket.. and did everything u see below... Wet with safety switch you'll be good... Till u break something.. if u wanna go conservative stay at 100 HP or below... And don't do more than 2 runs back to back for.fear of melting ur plugs.
Don't build a stock motor if you want more power, you'll have stock power. Build a motor for the power level you want and you'll make that power.
Ok thanks and now since I'm going to have the motor totally rebuilt anyway is there something's I could get done such as bore, port polish heads? To make it more powerful?
There are any number of things you can do if you're rebuilding the engine. Bore/stroke is one obvious answer. In addition, depending on how much power you want: ported heads, ported intake manifold, larger TB, and of course your bolt-ons. Also may want to go forged bottom end if you want to run forced induction in the future. Power is addictive so I won't hurt to build a solid motor to handle any increases you may want later. That's my opinion at least.
Upping the compression with a properly combined top end that flow freely with components that complement each other is how you make power. Increasing displacement will help as well.
If u do any of these options be prepared to spend 3-5 k to do it right.. otherwise just rebuild to stock and chuck nitrous on it for a few years till your ready to.drop the real $ in it...
im going to port/polish heads. 1.6 roller rockers. bore .30 over port TB and intake manifold. where do you guys think that would put me in terms of RWHP? and now that im going to do all this instead of the stock build what cam should i go with for the most power but still decent driveability?
I'm not that knowledgeable teither I .asked the guy I baught my heads from.. I would think in your case ask the head porter or engine builder, ide imagine your noyt gonna bore it yourself. Another option , if ur gonna flash the ecu.. ask them.. they know what makes the most power, with what setup (unless your gonna tune it yourself).
Read the thread "camshaft selection guide" at the top of the forum. It will help you know where you may need to be at and not overdo it on the cam.
