Figured it out. You want to take disconnect the bracket and have the allen bolt already started because once the spring is placed the bolt won't be reachable. It's easier to get the spring in and then muscle the bracket back on. Another option is to compress the spring and use some hobby wire to keep it compressed, place the spring, and then cut the wires.
