Hi. I have a 97 Formula and an issue came up yesterday for the first time. When I went to start the car, it started up for a second and died. The trip odometer and clock both lost their memory. Then a few seconds later it started right up and was fine for the rest of the day. No problems with any starts for the rest of the day. Then this morning I try and start it again and the same exact thing happens. Any idea what this could be? Cars got low mileage and in the 4 years I've owned it I've never had any issues whatsoever. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like car has a problem with one of the main power feeds. You can easily check the battery + lead as it goes to the starter. There's a red box on the inner fender well that has the fuseable links in it. Check them for tightness. And of course check battery - lead for good connection at both ends. Engine and body grounds. Pcm power leads and grounds.

If all that doesn't find the problem, go to 4th gen section and download the 96 factory service manual. It will have complete wiring diagrams. Look for thread titled
"GM service manuals".
