Well, I had an interesting weekend. My 406 isn't quite together yet so the car is still a roller.

My brother moved to Australlia last winter and offered me his stock 87 GTA to use for cruising or racing until my car is back together. I got it out of storage a few weeks ago but it wasn't running very well. It was (and is) throwing a MAF code. Anyways, after work of Friday I phoned my girlfriend to bring it up to my work place so I could work on it. She called shortly after telling me that it had died. After a few hours, a few battery swaps and a new alternator, I had it running again but it was dark and late. On Saturday morning I took the car for a drive and it seemed to be running much better for some reason so I decided to change the oil, install a new tranny mount, and a few other things and head out for a few test/tune passes. After the tune up, I was late getting out the track. After I unloaded my tools and got in the car to go to tech, the car decided to not start - the starter had quit. I watched a buddy for a bit and then headed back into the city in our other car to get my mini-starter. I got it on and running but not before racing was done for the day.

I headed out early Sunday and made my 3 test runs. I had decided to run the car on street tires as slicks hadn't really seems to improve the times last season when I ran this car. Of course...the 60's were all over the place and so were the ETs. I decided to head into the city (again) and get my slicks before the 3rd hit but didn't get them on before they called our class. I decided to try one more on street tires (thought the seat time might help as this was my first time out this season) and they 60' was much better but I decided to put the slicks on for eliminations. I had no clue were to dial the car or how it was going to come off the line. I am guessing the car would have picked up about 4/10s in the cooler weather earlier in the day but I never got to hang it out in the first few rounds. The car picked up ET even though I scrubbed about 10mph off each time. I sorta lucked out and made the final but we had to hot lap and the car fell off 3/10s as it was into the 105* mark after following a funny car down the return road for 10 minutes. The car wasn't even competitive and I lost by way more than I cared to have.

All in all, it was a pretty good day. I didn't have a feel for how the car would come off the line with the sticky tires (last points race in 04 was Sept 19...) but my goal was to not red light. You can't win if you give the race away at the line.

Hopefully I have the engine going and the car ready for Round #2 in 3 weeks.
