Will a 95 LT1 PCM work on a 97 LT1?

It will work, but not do everything the 97 does as far as OBD-II stuff. The knock sensor would have to be changed to an OBD-I one.

actually changing the knock sensor is a 5 min task....

obd2 style plug is where you scanner plugs in, the amount of wires varies, so as the scanner it self, the ecu´s are slightly different.. also the programs to tune your ecm will be different. price wise obd1 are cheaper.

knock sensor will have nothing to do with emissions...
the knock sensor is used to retard timing when out of "normal bangings Occur"
lets say your car is misfiring, the knock sensor will retard timing to prevent the engine from breaking. lets say placing it in safe mode

Other than the coolant that will come fire-hosing out of there when you pull it, yes, it is a simple job. But, the knock sensor doubles as the block drain plug on that side...
