Here's a link to a free scan tool software for obd2 cars. It was designed for f-bodies but should work on 1996 to 2007 obd2 vehicles.
Free Cloud Storage - MediaFire You will need an elm-327 cable to go with the software.
(1) there is an instruction doc in the zip file, excutable file, and data files. (2) Download zip file and place in folder of your naming and unzip. (3) tested in XP and 7 (4) you can contact the author at
garydoug98ta@gmail.com The author wants people to test his program. For those advanced enough to know what PID's are, he would like for you to get back to him with the PID's your car has.

I keep posting a link to a cable on amazon. It works one time then stops working.

He may be referring to the multiple files there. GDScan is a generic one for any OBD2 car. GDScan2 is specific to the GM brand. GDScan2a has parts that will only work for the F-series cars like the 97 Z28, and that would be the one of choice in that case, because it has the most features. The downside, is that it will not work for non-GM cars. You must download the GDScan one for the support files. Get all 3 in case you have a need for them later.
There are no programming features in any version. This is strictly for diagnostics.
