I know most of these questions are somewhere out there but all that I've read they are all disputed in some way. So, heres my deal. I have 1995 Trans Am LT1 T56. Motor began knocking so I purchashed what I was told was a 1995 Vette LT1 but it has a crank sensor so it leads me to believe its a 1996 engine because of that. True or not?? Block has a 327 cast number. I have a number of other questions..

1.What is the HP rating on this engine? 300HP advertised in the Vette? I know the exhaust and intake system is what is said to give it the extra 15-25 HP over the F-body.

2.Will my accessory mount work on this engine?

3. I have an MSD Billet opti spark on my engine now. Will it fit on the Vette LT1?

4. Anything else I should now about before I begin to teardown?

2. Accy mount will bolt up-no problem

3. Yes, the opti should be the same.

Try looking at the partial VIN on the block to see what year it is. It's probably a 96, if it came from a 'vette, but might not even be a 'vette engine (people like to embellish...). A 'vette LT1 would have 4 bolt mains.
Pull the oil pan to know if it is really from a vette, it would have 4 bolt mains. A lot of asshole advertise their caprice and road master and Camaro engines as vette engines, very annoying. The 94-97 f body and vette lt1 had the exact same parts top to bottom except the vette had 4 bolt mains instead of 2. If your heads are iron, it's a b body lt1 with a smaller torquey cam. As far as horsepower ratings, it's about the exhaust changes, which is void considering nobody leaves stock manifolds on.
Im pretty sure it definitly is out of a vette because of two obvious signs. It has the nipple on the intake in which the corvette engine covers attached to. And second it has an Oil filter adapter and has the smaller filter(Acdelco PF52) on it. Im pretty proud of this motor I found. Was on craigslist advertised for $1000. I called and he said his father bought the engine from a place in Florida that pulled it out of a totaled Vette. Stated engine had 9,500 miles on it(not a typo- 9,500). I kinda blew it off, but he said it was clean so I made the 120+ mile trip to check it out. I pulled the oil cap and I instantly believed the 9,500 miles statement. This thing is CLEAN!! The heads ar not even Oil stained. still has factory head gaskets on it and the brown sealant that they used to seal the intake. Walked away with engine for $700. Pretty happy about putting this fresh engine in next weekend. Thanks btw shoebox and bufmatmuslepants
