ok from wat ive gatherd....stock lt1's dyno......270-290 hp and a ls1 willl put down 290-320 to the rear wheels...and its all depending on transmison...A4 or M6...m6's will dyno higher

as for tourqe...they are close to the same... a lt1 will put down 280-300 as for most ls1's dyno in 300-330 tq..

hope that helps u !

I wish a stock lt1 put down 270hp. That would make it 0% drivetrain loss.

A stock lt1 will put down about 230hp if its an a4.

A stock ls1 should put down about 290hp a4

LT1 235-250...I've seen an M6 do 260.

Early LS1's 280-300...the later cars were much stronger...some 2002 M6 cars put down 320hp.

wow...
True, although the SS LT1 had 305 hp, so it should be closer to 265.
The LT4 had 330 hp... so my guess, a dyno of 280-290?

The few LT4 cars that have been dynoed are between 280 and 305 rear wheel HP. The secret is SLP left the stock LT1 tune in the LT4 F-cars, whereas the LT4 Vettes got an LT4 tune. A guy from Speed Inc. owns an LT4 SS that dynoed like 282. He tuned the PCM and I think it ended up over 310rwhp.

Maybe true, but youre talkin like a kid. The LS1 is a incarnation and advancement of the LT1's groundbreaking design. Back in 93, many other cars pushed 300 hp. Cobra's, Supra's TT's, 300Z TT'sand 3000Gt's, (to name a few) were all introduced in the early ninties, and it was the LT1 that did all the battling and made people say " holy sh*t... them newer fbodies are nasty!"
My friends stock 01' SS camaro is just 1 second faster than my car, and my car is 7 years older. He told me it pulls just as hard.
Sorry to get offensive, but know youre history, and never diss any form of the 5.7 Liter. The heart and soul of chevy's muscle. ( Dont get me wrong... I Love LS1's )

Ohh, and the first years of the LS1 were rated near 305 hp. Factor in the Auto Drivetrain loss, your lookin at 260-270 hp. Putting in CIA and a simple Catback for $500 will give me that.

Sorry but 1 second in the quarter mile is LIGHTYEARS.....

I wouldn't say an LS1 is "just" one second faster, I would say an LS1 is a WHOLE second faster.

And FYI, the first years of the LS1 were rated at 305 hp but they were VERY UNDERRATED. If you find an LS1 car out there only putting down 260-270hp then it probably has at least 1 plug wire loose.

A Stock 98 LS1 SS will pull what... a 13.6 in the Quarter? (Z28.com/times)
A Stock 96 LT1 SS will pull what... a 13.8 in the Quarter?
hmm...

and, how many car lengths difference in one second?
Im not very drag strip educated, but my guess is around 2?

I think your times are VERY optimistic for the LT1 car and very pessimistic for the LS1 car. Assuming the same transmission in each (a4 to a4 or m6 to m6) the LS1 car is going to be a half second quicker. You might find a slow LS1 and a fast LT1 and get the diff. down to .2, but that is going to be the exception not the rule.

Stock LS1 M6 cars run 13.2-13.4 all day long. You'd be lucky to get 13.8 out of an LT1 M6 car.

So you're probably looking at more like 3-4 car lengths...which at the strip is a POUNDING. I'm sorry but a CAI and an exhaust is NOT going to make you a match for any LS1 car. Its just not.

You're talking about on average having to make up a 50hp deficit. You're not going to get more than 20 of that with a CAI and an exhaust. Even with full longtubes you will still probably be down hp vs an LS1.

For a comparison of just how much more HP is in the LS1...look at the trap speeds. Since driver error has a lot to do with ETs, MPH is a better indicator.

An LT1 A4 car will MPH 98-101mph stock. An LS1 a4 will MPH 104-106.

M6 cars is 101-103 vs. 107-110 for the LS1 cars.

Whoa sorry man..:screwy:
Im just readin what the site has, and those are all real times from factory.
I'm not sure whether they were M6's or A4's.
And thats besides the point... Im not in favor of either, I like both motors.
But in no way shape or form is an LS1 'lightyears' ahead in power. It's all about the benjemins.
I think the 98+ headlights are the ugliest thing and my brother ( a camaro collector , has 3) says they look like an Intrepid coming down the road.
Not to say they dont look nice, cause they do, but its not all about power.
Compare the quartermile time of a 97 SS M6, vs a 02 SS M6.....
average times too, not just the best... ;)

sorry for the confusion... could I buy you a case of Budwieser?

What confusion? I understand exactly what you are saying, I just think you're wrong about how little difference there is.

Go ahead and get your CAI and exhaust, as those are good first mods, but don't cry when totally stock LS1 cars still walk away from you. I've been around these cars on the street and the track enough to know you're being unrealistic.

I'm only trying to help by trying to make your expectations in line with reality.

soo. do you want the beer or not? :usa: ;)

I understand you perfectly, and I trust what youre telling me. But please dont confuse my point with yours.
Im just saying its not all about power, and to most people .6 tenths of a second ( give or take ) is not as noticable as you may think. Although on the track, it certainly is.
Along side with a 01 SS, we punched it a 70mph and he climbed half a car length on me up to about 105mph... Both Auto's. Thats it, and we've messed around plently of times.
Yes on a track he would take me and the difference would be noticable, but he paid over 15,000 for his ride. I paid 4400 for my One owner, 98k, never seen snow 1LE.
For the money he has into his SS, I could buy two Lt1's with 2 SC's and smoke any LS1 that isnt heavily modified, with money to spare:thumbsup:

Just to give an example:
A friend of mine took his 95 LT1 M6 car and did:
Mild set of heads
1.7 roller Rockers
Long Tubes + Exhaust
CAI
Free mods

Put down 309 rwhp.
That is a lot of work and money put into a LT1 to make it match up evenly with a stock LS1.

My '95 with headers, cat-back exhaust, Moroso CAI, computer reprogram, etc. is only running 13.8s! I'd love to see an all stock LT1 that can run 13.8s!

Of course, the funny thing is I can smoke my friend's LS1 '00 Camaro SS M6 becuz he can't shift the thing!!!
