im currently tryin to drop an lq9 and t56 in my 95 formula..... very expensive as most know..... now my 92 s10 is a sweet ride but i noticed the lack of nut the 2.8 v6 puts out.... kinda wanted a 4.3 but then found out, everyone is getting way better mileage with a 4.8 or 5.3 swap over the 4.3 motor..... sounds fun power and mileage..... the 2.8 gets 20-22. the 4.3 i had got 15-18. my buddies halfton automatic 4x4 get 15-17 with the 4.8..... i wanna go 4.8 or 5.3..... theyre cheaper than a good 4.3 and put down more power....
now the question is, can i find a cheap manual transmission that bolts up to the 4.8 and will handle the tq? i cant afford another t56......
did the offer a 5 speed option for the v8 halftons or just the 4.3s?
ok so ls1 only trannys? i was reading that the lsx blocks have a .040 longer crank that complicates things and then i was told the 6.0s were the only ones with that kinda crank.... so now im so confused on what to do. i just bought my 6.0 for my bird and im looking at pickin the 4.8 up for the s10 within the next month.... unfortunately the trannys are the expensive part and i dont wanna go and buy a tranny without knowing itll fit for sure....
Unfortunately I don't have the answer for you. That's just not a platform I'm very familiar with. Perhaps start a new thread in the LS section. You might get more knowledgeable LS guys in there because this section gets very little traffic.
The 4.8 was available with a 5 speed. But, those would be geared wide in the lower gears and not have as much OD. An S10 is light and unless you're using it as a truck, you'd be better going with car-like gearing like a V8 T5 or T56.
so would you know what tranny i would use? t5 is braod. im copncerned about bell housing and such to make sure itll work because i know the crank is different than in the previous year 5.7 vortecs and 5.0 vortecs. i dont believe thatll work
