Having welded a bit on the 57 without disconnecting the battery i find my 97 LT1 ignition module shot. Took off the old one and noticed some white material around the screws as well as behind the Ign. Mod itself. What the heck is that stuff? Something new no doubt that I don't know about.
Thanks.

The white stuff is thermo paste that helps transfer the mucho heat the icm puts out, to the metal heat sink. If you buy a new icm & don't apply the stuff to icm & heat sink, the icm will fail in quick time.

And never weld on a car with a computer unless you disconnect both battery cables.

Yes, I know. I forgot. I did manage to find a GM icm from summit and a small tube of heat sink paste from Radio Shack, so all may be well.
