I ran my fiends 94 formy 6 speed at track and he pulled past me right before end of the quarter. I'm a auto so I was wondering what the best gearing would be to possibly beat him. Both cars are stock with just intake. My car is 94 z28 auto

No knowing what your current gear ratio is.....I'd say the best gear for daily drivability, gas mileage AND performance would be 3.73 gears.

But hell......I'm a B-body guy, so take that with a grain of salt.

Ya i wouldnt go any higher than 3.73 in a auto its an all around good gear thats what i have im a manual. And once i get my new rear end im goin 4.11s all the way
You probably have 2.73s but you could possibly have 3.23s. Look on the sticker on your door that has all the couple letter codes and look for GU5 or GU2. Then you'll know if you have 3.23s or 2.73s.
I am close to a deal on a 3.42. I think it will make a big difference from my 2.73. I like the idea of just bolting up the rear and I think if I put im 3.73s it will be time for another rear rather quickly lol. Also, gas is $4.00 plus.

A 3.42 rear end you mean? You would see a big improvement with them over the 2.73s.

Lol, thanks for reading my mind.
Easy way to tell (at least with the pontiacs) is if you have the 150 mph speedo you have 3.23 gears stock.
Depends on tranny to.. I run 4.11 in my auto with .no issues , I'm not about to drive it on a long trip .. if you wanna be able to take it on longer trips too IDE stay w 3.73.. If memory is correct I gained over a half second going from 3.23 to 4.11
Thanks bro, i would rather smack in the 3.42 whole housing.
I have a chance to get some used 3.73s cheap but I would have to run the spacer to make them fit in my 2 series carrier. Is the spacer a dumb idea in an already weak rear end?
I'd just get a 2 series gear set. They'll be stronger than that 3series set with a spacer. Spacer will probably make setting back lash a pain also
3.73 for auto for street/strip and a converter.

He has 3.42s.
Id keep running him at the track eventually ur friends rear will blow from launching. Id do 373s. Yukons are supposed to be pretty good i hear

i have a 150 speedometer and it had 2.73's but now 3.73's
I was told all of the stick cars have 3.42s? Is this true?
I could b wrong but i think that there were a few different gear options in a stick car. 3.23s 3.42s and 3.73s
Not sure either but i don't think anything came from GMT w/ 3.73.
