yeah, I have a 2001 Firebird V8 and it has the steering wheel buttons for the radio.

Are there radios on the market that work with the steering wheel buttons?

Or if I install a new one, are those useless.

All I want is to be able to plug in my ipod touch.

Don't know of any head units that will work straight out of the box, but iSimple and PAC are both companies that make devices that interface between your steering wheel controls and aftermarket HUs.

They also sell controllers that work with some factory HUs that allow you to connect an iOS device via the CD changer port and control your iPod that way. I have a dock and one of these in my DD (2005 civic), it works great and keeps the factory look.
