94 lt1 bone stock. when i adjust the lifters at tdc and then rotate the crank 360 i have several rocker arms that are so loose that they could wiggle right off the valve. at first i thought it was the timing but after getting the timing cover off everything seems to be in order. the dots line up. im doing everything to the t according to the manual. so many times i lost count. wtf is going on?

ive swapped rocker arms and pushrods with identical oem parts and had the same issue
How are you tightening the rocker arms

with a 5/8 deepwell socket and a rachet. tighten em down till the rods stop spinning, 3/4 of a turn after that.

Are you tightening each lifter when it is on the base circle of the cam?

Could just have some weak lifters that bleed down to fast.

Check your pinch nuts/whatever you have in place of them.
Detail the method you are using to set the valves. If you are using an engine off method, sounds like you are doing the wrong ones for the crank position. Did the engine run before this latest work?
im doing everything to the t of the haynes repair manual. would the dots still line up if at somepoint the crank managed to slip 180 degrees on the chain?

How could a chain slip?

If you did the install right, its the method of adjusting rockers.

Check the sticky at the top and read it a few times.

i didnt install it. i believe its the original. 120k+ on the motor. i took the cover off and noticed the hub had slipped from what i thought was tdc. went to readjust the the valves and this was the issue.

If you cannot verify TDC using the crank pulley arrow, then either find TDC manually, or just adjust each lifter one by one.

I do mine lifter by lifter, takes more time but, it usually is easier and less second guessing.

When the intake valve is open (Max Lift) the exhaust valve is closed set the exhaust valve, when the exhaust valve is open (Max lift) the intake is closed set the intake valve lash.

Simpler to use method #1 then start the car back off each until clatter snug to no sound then 1/2 turn.
