This is the 2nd fbody I have fixed up since being active duty. I picked it up as a complete car with a known head gasket issue, came with a set of chrome and wheels and Corvette replicas. it spent a short time hydro locked on cylinder 8 and the starter was broken due to last guy attempting to start it up and prove it ran (helped out on price). Anyhow first thing was removing spark plugs and crank by hand. Coolant came out of cylinder 8. Removed tstat and flushed cooling system with garden hose. Sprayed WD in the spark plug hole in attempt to kill moisture. Got the new Amazon prime starter. Don't buy it it's not compatible even with up to 3/8 worth of shimming. So waited on the starter from carid.com. worked beautifully with no shimming and less than half price of an AutoZone starter. Cranked with no spark plugs, then cleaned and reinstalled spark plugs, car started up easily and I have been running it for a minute or so every once in a while. Rather then pulling the drivetrain out (not enough time) I opted to give steelseal a shot.once I get a tag, Will go run it on the highway with the stealseal & water. I am confident it will seal the head gasket leak I will drive it now and again this summer and should be a chemical layering process. Once that's sealed up won't be racing around just a nice driver car, on the interior side I fully stripped it powerwashed everything and re ran the wires for the sound system. Has a great sounding Sony unit with kicker speakers. Car is an attention getter and still has potential feel free to comment Thanx 4 reading

That is a good idea.

Everyone I have know that used head gasket in a bottle has regretted it unless they sold it shortly after. It makes a mess inside your engine. Typically plugs heater cores and radiators.

If you fix it right the first time you will be better off.

That is true when it comes to anything off the shelf with the fibers, look into steel seal they have been in business since 1999, their product is all chemical reaction, I don't think twice about trying it out. It did not work on my car due to the blow being too severe which I didn't know as I had never ran the car with water in it. Nevertheless I decided to park it back home and will swap a good motor with a 6 speed when I'm not active .becuz the car checks all the other boxes, red ram air hood t-top. Just don't have the extra time ATM to pull the drivetrain pay to have heads shaved and all. Trying to take a small break from major projects!

I’ll agree to disagree.

All the “fixes in a bottle” are temp band aids at best. Being around since 1999 means they are a new comer to that market. Bar’s Leak has been around for 75 years. These companies don’t stay in business because they work. They stay in business by praying in people’s desperation. Kinda like payday loan places.

It’s always better to repair the issues the proper way. Even if that means parking your project vehicle for a while.

Best of Luck. It is a nice looking Firebird.
