anyone running a 3.73 rear with the 93 t-56? how is the launch? and how is the cruising?

im basically toying with the idea of throwing a 6-speed in the impala. from what i have read, 3.73's dont work well with the 94-97 trans ratios. i just had the rear done last year, and im not at all interested in changing it again. im just wondering what the car drives like....ie. racing, everyday, highway?

anyone have any input?

I have 3.73s and a 94 transmission....what's not to like?

6th gear cruising is perfect at about 1750rpm @ 70mph. 1st gear take offs are fine as long as I don't engage the Street Twin too fast.
Depends on which tranny you get.

Either 93 Tranny is viewed as a good match with a set of 3.73's....
94+ T-56's go well with 4.10's.

I'm planning on running 4.10's with my 93 M29 T-56. Should equate to about a 4.36 in a 94+ car.
it's too bad that the 93 T-56s were only built for 350-400 ft-lbs of torque, whereas 94+ were 450-500 ft-lbs. Don't know why 93 was such a strange year...

It's all numbers. They're just as strong as the rest.

The reason for the oddball transmissions in 93 was due to the following:

Initially the GM run of T-56's was supposed to be the M28 code for the 93's. However, as the cars were produced, the F-Body spec transmissions weren't ready. So GM put in a call to Chrylser for some Dodge Viper T-56's, hence the close ratio M29 coded cars. Those are fun. :D
thanks for the info, i need to research which code '93 trans works best with the 3.73's and a 27" tire, thank for the help fellas

Ah jeez.....you would ask me that. It was some information that was dug up about 3-4 years ago now on one of the very first speed density web boards. How this information came to be I don't remember, but ask around, you'll get the same information elsewhere.
not knocking you but i have a hard time believing it. unfotunately i dont think snopes will have the truth behind it lol

Yeah, there generally is some skepticism, but everything we know says it's the truth. Search around CamaroZ28.com, there's some guys who have been in the 4th gen world for a VERY long time who back up the same information.
lol i'll just call someone at ttc and ask them

Who's TTC??? If you get a 100% answer I'd like to know what it is. I'd hate to think that due to some bad information I've been wrong all this time.
ttc is the company who makes the t56.

I know someone who used to work for them before the split off from their parent company

From what I can tell on that website, TTC is the parent company of Tremec. But you see, Borg Warner originally produced the T-56 back then, then around 99 or so sold the division to Tremec. But I'm not sure Borg Warner would have this information or not because this was supposedly a direct Corp. to Corp. purchase.
correct.TTC is the parent comp of tremec which bought then bought bw gear division. But i garantee that some of the engineers are still there. My main point is i think the 2 gear boxes are differen from a viper to an f body. that can find out from my source. If they are in fact the same then i'll beleive the possibilty of a corp to corp purchase
It would be interesting to find out. Some good hard facts are always good to have. Lemme know if you come up with something.
i'll email him tonight. I'll post up when he replies
 Good deal!!
i'm not saying its not a fact. Im just saying all it is right now is a bunch of people read it on a message board. which i think we all know means doodlyhopefully he gets back to me fairly quick then we'll know for sure ;)
