Hey all. If you've seen my other threads than you know I'm having issues with an electrical problem that is causing my car to be able to start but will die immediately, or it will flutter rpm up and down until it dies. I recently pulled the ECM memcal and noticed a black splotch that looked like the circuit board had burnt out. I just wanted a second opinion on this and if it is the problem, I want to ask for help in trying to locate one that I can replace it with. Here's the pic:

There is also the ID # for that memcal. The problem is I cannot find one that had the same ID, probably because it is a 1993 and a manual tranny.

93batmobile, I don't know all the details of the years but does your car have the VATS key? If so, the key could be worn where it does not may contact in the cylinder or, the VATS module could have crapped out. It is a small black box with green connector that is mounted behind the dash, vertically to the left of the glovebox.

The VATS key has a resistance (there were ten unique resistances) that gave the ECM a signal to keep the fuel pump powered. If the ECM did not get the right signal from the VATS module (which needed the right resistance from the key), then the fuel pump would be de-energized and the car would stall within a few seconds. If your fuel pump stays powered, then it is not the VATS.

If it is they key or the VATS module, you can delete the VATS by various methods. Some people make a resistor jumper to bypass the ignition circuit. I helped my son harvest a 95 LT1 our of a Firebird Formula. In our case, we were not going to use the VATS steering column from the bird. I purchased a timer on Amazon that I used to delete the VATS module itself.

See this link:

Good luck.
