You take off the motor mount bolts and lift the engine ,with a hoist or jack, high enough that you can remove the oil pan.

I would loosen up your tranny mount a tad bit, Like dont take the bolt off of it, but loosen the bolt enough.
My dad has an old BMW E28 And his gasket is bad wich requires the motor to be jacked up higher then you can belive. So he asked me how to fix it. I told him the same thing coco told you. But he asked, any other way? I smiled and said well its just an old junk bmw thats never gonna be workin right, you could just put gasket sealer all the way around the lip of the oil pan lol =]
Needless to say the job is done the wrong way, but doesnt leak anymore. AND THIS THING LEAKED. BAD before and now nothing.
Dont do it the wrong way lol .
