May need a new PCM

So I tried to re-load a tune into my 96 Z28 and the program froze on me...now when i try to reload i get the "error communicating with PCM" something along those lines anyway. I am curious to know if anyone has this issue and worked it out .. or should i order a new PCM? I Mean my battery looks a bit low so could that be an issue... at this point i may try a couple more times but im kind of thinking of shopping for another PCM.

sounds like time for another ecm.

they are repairable but for the price just get another one...

you should never flash with a low battery, lesson learned.

I actually accidentally hit the wrong button and ended up starting the ****ing upload and hoped that it would just run its course....ohh well lesson learned indeed. Hey man where on the island are you from?

Awesome it would be great to talk cars with another fourth gen guy.. I hit up shows on the island but its rare to see another fourth gen...and especially rare to see a modded fourth gen out here. If im ever down that way ill message you on here. Do the same if you ever come up this way.

there used to be way more of an fbody scene out here, it kinda died. i kept it alive as long as i could, tried to get meets going, but it got to the point where it wasn't even worth paying for the domain name for the damn forum anymore, barely anyone was into it.

In case you want to save your pcm so it can be a back up, Welcome to www.moates.net! : Moates.Net sells a replacement set of chip sockets and new chips for these pcm's. At least they sold them last time I looked.

Using the new sockets, you would solder them to circuit board then chips would snap in. That way if you ever brick the pcm again you can get new chips and change them out quickly.

Everyone that reflashes these pcm's holds there breath when the first chip changes over to the second chip. This is where the program will fail if it does.

i did that; and it was a bitch, those are some tiny socket pins.. its not like soldering a socket in an old 80s ecm. i'd just buy a good used pcm and throw the old one out unless you're REALLY good at fine soldering.

Someone on another forum will solder in the sockets and give you a spare set of chips for I think $100.

which is about as much as a used pcm that's worth a few hundred flashes.... and then you don't have to take it apart and swap the chips if it blows up; just swap the ecm itself...
