cam setup

Hello i am new to this forum but have been on ls1tech for quite some time now, they dont seem to pay too much attention to the lt1 guys so i figured id come and give you guys a try

I am looking for a cam for my car which is a DD. I want something streetable,passes smog, good power, and sounds good.

I think i have it narrowed down to the lt4 hotcam and the cc305.

Both cams seem to be around the same:
lt4 = 218/228 112
cc305 = 220/230 114

Not to sure what i want yet...

My other question is what is everything i would need as far as the rest of the installation goes?

Roller Rockers?
Springs?
Retainers?
Push Rods?
Timing Chain?
Water Pump?
Oil pump?
Gaskets?

Please let me know what is necessary and what is not, thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

You will need springs, which ones depends on the cam you decide to go with. hardened pushrods are also a good idea. A timing chain isn't a must...but it's a good idea to change it out while you're in there. Stock water pump can be used, Stock Oil pump is fine.

Yes, it's the opti.

You might try comp cams XFI line. I had part number 07-467-8 in my car with a tuned computer and it idled like stock. Also i have the vavle springs for that cam i'll take $100 shipped for them. They have never been used. I went with a different set up so i didn't need them send me a PM if you are interested. I think i paid $150 for them.

Roller Rockers? Not necissary but while your there you may want to do them.
Springs? Yes. Which ones and price will vary on what cam you go with..
Retainers? Same As Above..
Push Rods? Yes some comp hardened pushrods would be a good choice..
Timing Chain? No but while your there is added safety...
Water Pump? No.. Once again you could go with a CSR and make a couple extra HP
Oil pump? No...
Gaskets? You'll need all gaskets to do teh cam swap..

Please let me know what is necessary and what is not, thanks!

If you havent decided on which cam to choose, consider cc305 with a 112 lsa instead of a 114 lsa. I went that route about 2 months ago, and changed out my whole valvetrain and I absolutely love it. you can get that cam from thunder racing. this cam is a good dd/budget cam based on my situtation because i've noticed descent gains throughout the rpm range, hasnt effected my drivability at all, and i love the sound of the 112 lsa (even though that shouldnt be the reason you choose a cam). also, if you are on a budget, you dont technically have to have it tuned right away for it to run. even though it is recommended. just my .02

definitely going with the cc305. not sure if im going 112 or 114. biggest thing is passing emissions. would the 112 pass the sniffer test?

also do you have a sound clip or can you get one for me? thanks..looking for a clip of that cam with similar mods.

Im pretty sure that with tuning it will pass emissions. esp since there are other cams that can be made to pass that are bigger ie gm 847.

here are a couple of vids my dad took for me. i am in college right now, and i will get some better vids and post them when i go back home this weekend. I basically have the same mods you do, except I have a corsa cat-back. i dont think these vids do it justice because it sounds a bit high pitched in the clips, but in life it has a much deeper tone.

nah, its not really any different than before. obviously the brakes are quite what they used to be, but youll loose some with any aftermarket cam. thanks for the compliments though
