Cam Preferences?
Allright guys, I'm sending my heads off to the machine shop to get ported and polished. When I put the motor back together I want to install a cam. Allthough I've had a couple of Lt1's in the past I never dropped a cam in one.
So I need some opinions on which one is best. I've gone on youtube and watched dozens of videos of cams. I really like the sound of the Lt4 hot cam but Im still unsure.
I had a 93 lx 5.0 mustang with e series cam in it at one time. It sounded nasty. But sometimes when I would be sitting at a stoplight the car would just cutt off. Man that used to make me irate. I asked around then and everybody said it was a combo of the cam design and my auto trans.
My Camaro is going to have a auto trans in it and i dont want to have the same problem I did before. So any insight would be great!

Read the cam sticky first, it will give you a good idea of what range of cam to look for and what is needed. You'll also need new valve springs and if you don't have a spring compressor decide which cam you want b/f you send the heads to the machine shop so you can have them install the right springs.
With a tune the car won't cut out with even a medium sized cam cc503 on stock stall, but if you go that big you really need a higher stall tc.

Im emisions free. In nc 95 and older has no emissions testing. So thats not a big worry. this car prob. wont be a daily driver but I will be driving it a lot. Also on long trips. We try to hit the dragons tail in the mountains a couple times a year and that is about 3 to 4 hours away.
As for the springs and stuff. Thats one reason I liked the lt4 hot cam. because from what I read you can just purchase the cam kit along w/ the cam and it comes w/ everything that I should need. Correct me please if im wrong. Luckily the guy that is going to help me freshen up and put my engine back together builds pro mod chevy's. So he has all the tools of the trade. He told me to ask around about the cams because although he can build and put them together w/ no problem, he is not as familiar with street cams as he is w/ race cams. A stall makes sense, I didn't have a stall in my stang and i prob. needed one.

Whats your budget?
The hot cam kit is the easiest way, but leaves power on the table.

Well, it depends. I want to kind of find that happy medium where power meets cost efficiency. In all honesty (I think most would disagree), Im more interested in how it sounds then how much power it puts down. But since im spending the money, of course horse power gain is a plus.
I may put this car on the track a few times, but this car will mostly turn out as a cruiser. But whatever power it makes in the end, Im not going to hide it. Are there any cams and kits that make a lot more power for no more then a couple hundred bucks more then the hot cam?

LE2 Head and Cam would set you back around $1700. Would make more power than LT4 Hotcam Kit.

My LE2 setup sounds pretty mean, and if I ever put the money into suspension/converter, is capable of an 11 sec pass.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH wait need to breath. ........ . ... . . . . OK. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
11 sec my ass. Maybe 11.99999999999999999999 on the perfect day with a Pro driver and perfect track prep. Also you will have to strip the entire car and run just enough fuel for the pass.

Huh?
Local guy is running 11.7X... full weight car... exact same cam, and heads.
I can get you a video of it if you don't wanna believe it. And its on a 1.7-1.8 60 foot... so not sure why you laugh.
Proof for the doubter.

Older video, he got a new best of 11.7 the other week...

Ya Vette boy! You need weight for high horsepower, that's why you run an Iron block!
O' and original poster, a cam, valve springs, gaskets, and a liitle knowledge will get you more safe, useable power for the buck than anything else !

That is not a head cam only car sorry. Anybody can claim anything. My Z runs 12's. Bring your little h/c on down and we will see what your 11 sec car looks like next to it.
Oh and Crazy. WTF are you talking about? You need weight for high HP? My car is much lighter and makes more HP then both of you two's cars.
SNM seems you have found the perfect side kick.

Ok?
A member on here, stealthformula ran a 11.88@114 w/ 1.65 60' with an LE2 combo. So not sure where the logic that this combo cannot net you a 11 sec pass, I mean sorry its not a fancy vette, but I don't get your logic.
But ok... I will continue to live in my day dream I guess.

I think show could pull it off. He has lost some weight as it is. Along with if he could hook with 400whp he should be right around a 12 flat. Along with the stall should help. Then plus he has the 100 shot. I believe that's right isn't is show? Any way he should be in the mid to low 11's.
