i have a 95 z28 with the 6 speed. my problem is that is will not shift into any gears while the motor is running. i can turn the car off and it will go thru the gears( not perfect but good). when i put it in gear and turn the car on it makes a funny noise that goes away after a few seconds. while i'm starting the car with it in gear and the clutch pushed in it will move forward just a little bit. once you do get it in gear it will go down the road fine, it just won't let you shift gears. i had been driving the car and i was going from 3 to 4 when this happened and it wouldn't let me go into 4. it does have a lot of miles on it and i don't know when the trans had any work done to it last. i haven't put a lot of miles on it since i've had it( less than 30K) and it had been shifting good for the most part until this happened. any help would be great. thanks.
ok, need more info, does the pedal feel normal or really loose? cause what you are describing sounds an awful lot like a leaky or damaged hydraulic system, or a broken slave cylinder. or a clutch fork that has come off of its pivot.
nothing about the way the car was driving was any different than how it had been performing. the clutch pedal doesn't feel any different than before. i wasn't dogging it or anything just normal driving. when i come out of 3rd it did feel kinda different and then it wouldn't go into 4th. i've had a few people tell me it is probably something in with the clutch stuff. i'm hoping it might be something to where i don't have to pull the transmission out of the car. i checked the clutch fluid and it was just a little low but not very much. i filled it up but it didn't make any difference. i've read on here about having to bleed the system because air got into some of the their lines. i have not tried that yet because i'm not sure how to. i'll have to research that also.
to bleed the system just pop the top off of the resevoir and then unhoko the slave cylinder and manually stroke it in and out about 2-3 times. or buy a vacuum bleeder, and simply stick into the bottom channel of the resevoir and pump it up to about 15 inches of mercury then clutch in.
may be that will work but you can even check for transmission switch. there may be spacing in between which is not allowing gears to shift on fluid flow
