Default 2nd Gear GONE 4th acting funny after swap please HELP

Hi, My name is Maurice and i have a 4l60e hooked to a lt1 (95' from a donor impala ss) in a 89' Mustang. The tranny/engine combo just came out of another car (not the original impala) and all gears worked perfect. I did the computer tune myself including the tranny changes, but after the swap...

The car goes from 1st to 2nd (according to the computer only) but CONTINUES to accelerate as if its still in first!

Then the car when you let off (because it will hit the rev limiter in second because its really in first) shifts to 3rd and drives fine in 3rd.

Then when it makes the 3rd to 4th shift it seems like the rpm barely dropped it acts like its in 4th, BUT the rpm doesn't match the gear ratio calculations i made and the rpm change from 3rd to 4th is only a few hundred rpm. 3.55 rear end, 225/45r16 tires and 2500 at around 60 mph (not exact because i don't have the speedo hooked up yet)

SO i have so far -

Check for codes - only came back with code 83 (tcc solenoid code)
Check the wires - yellow/black and light green (solenoid 1 and 2) at the ecu are making connections to the tranny (even Checked inside the pan at the solonoid)
Check the solenoids - removed and cleaned them (soaked and sprayed air through them) then check resistance (around 22ohm) and hooked 12volts from a battery to them (clicked each time)
Checked the output from the computer at idle (only 1 solenoid output was on at idle in park)

I then hooked a pair of switches to the 2 wires and by manually actuating the solenoids i got the exact same results!!!
Also when manual shifting the car (using the shifter) the tranny jerks/lunges when rolling and going from 2nd to 1st just like it used to when it was grabbing 1st from 2nd, yet the car is still in 1st either way it just makes the downshift lunge as if it has increased in rpm yet it hasn't until you give it some throttle then it goes like normal in 1st gear.

Also the Tranny has around 50,000 miles.

Any help is appreciated , Thanks!

Either a bad band, or it slipped out of the anchor pin.

Did you have the VB off?

2/4 is controlled by a band that grabs onto the low/rev drum, so pretty much yes both controlled by the same thing.

i've never had the valve body off, but this problem either started when

1.i did a new filter and drained the fluid and installed new filter and fluid, this was as i was doing the engine swap and before driving it of course.

2. OR i had the car tuned by pcmforless (right after i got it running) and i asked to have the converter lock up at a lower speed (dont remember but 45 or 55 i think) and the tranny was then for sure shifting very weird after 1st it was jumping around from second to 1st again and then 3rd.

I just don't remember if i had the second gear issue before the tune or only after but i do know the shift was screwed up after the tune. (not blaming anyone but some shifting problems not the same but possibly leading up to this problem were definetly started at exactly the same time i installed the tune)

I am going to check over the tune file i was sent and i can post any grids that i think might be outta wack if it would help see what could have been happening right after the tune, the car was acting confused as to what gear to be in and jumping back and forth but i had a valve over adjusted and it made the car run on 7 cylinders so at the time i attributed the issues to that.

I don't know when the "cruise mode" tables come into play but they stood out as i review them after driving the car the 2-1 numbers seem very high-

at the time 2.73 gear ratio cruise mode
x 1-2 2-3 3-4 2-1 3-2 4-3
0% 22 48 20 46 11 17
6% 23 48 21 47 12 18
12%23 35 17 30 12 23
19%27 63 24 47 13 22
25%31 43 17 30 16 31
31%38 213 31 47 20 33

normal mode
x 1-2 2-3 3-4 2-1 3-2 4-3
0% 12 22 31 11 20 28
6% 13 23 31 11 21 28
12%15 24 31 13 22 28
19%17 28 36 14 25 28

The more i think about it on the couple test runs when i installed the program the car would STAY in first at almost any speed below 40-50 mph even when i let off the gas, i don't know if this happen first or after i floored it and it shifted all crazy and jerked around after 2nd. but i do know that at some point those "cruise mode" tables did come into play and if the up shift at 0-15% throttle point is 11 mph and he set my down shift point (2-1) at 47mph (max) that if the car went to 45 in first , shifted into second then i let off the gas then it definitely tried to go back to 1st (0% cruise mode at 45 calls for a 2-1 shift) so that could have been the crazy jerk that i felt in the tranny. If so this program blew my 2nd gear band either way the tranny needs to be pulled out and i also had to redo the program which even tho its missing 2nd now it tries to shift properly (by watching the output in freescan!!!

Can i salvage the tranny and just change the broken pieces (with the highest quality aftermarket upgrades of course) or do i need to rebuild it entirely (only 50,000 miles on it and it used to shift like a dream) now that it has been injured?

Thanks

Just rebuild it thoroughly so you know its 100% no sense in only replace a couple parts and having it crap out in another area

Your right i didn't think of it like that. I will save up and get all the upgraded parts then, what website do you guys recomend? i found -

info and parts- http://www.700r4l60e.com/
info and suggestions for parts - http://mysite.verizon.net/strey/files/4L60ERepairs.html

Also in case anyone is interested while i have been troubleshooting this i have almost completed a IC controller that allows me to shift the 4l60e with buttons/paddles while stopping the computer from making ANY gear change and also with the flick of a switch the stock computer can take back over! I will post the diagrams and source code and install pics when its complete.

This is something i have seen many many forums talk about doing and myself wanted to so i researched it and bought a learners IC usb prototyping kit and with my 11 years of informal BASIC language experience i found it quite simple to put shift logic (up shift during 1st = 2nd gear... up during 4th = 4th gear... check safe rpm before down shift... etc..) and shift control (two relays) with visual output to a number 8 led display for gear display. I'm even adding two more number 8 leds and are going to use them to show the last 600 rpm before redline as a shift light "||||||" for lets say 6200 and "|" for 5600 etc...

I would be happy to show everyone if interested how to do this.

Thanks,
Maurice

Default Tranny is apart ???'s

I have the tranny out and apart, i want to be sure its worth a rebuild, also i have a newer 4l60e (just have to pull it outta my friends f-body) that i purchased so i could take my time on this rebuild.

So the 2-4 band is worn away to about a paper thicknes of material, also looks spider webbed up close.

The Drum that the 2-4 band grabs is gouged pretty bad, if you look from the side (perpendicular to the shaft) the drum outside tapers toward the back of the tranny??? i assume it should be a perfect cylinder not a cone right?

I am very interested in figuring out what caused this mainly to figure out what parts need the biggest upgrades and just for piece of mind.

Thanks,
Maurice

That other trans will only work if its not from an LSx vehicle, don't know which one you bought.

And no the drum should be flat, you can get new ones pretty cheap though.
