Default Will new LS6 springs work with this cam?

Crane 104241 Cam 218/218 duration .498/.498 116 LSA

This car is primarily driven by my wife. I needed a very mellow cam for my new 355 (currently being built). I have a very tight budget and I bought this cam for 150.00.

I already bought the COMP 787-16 Retainers and COMP 648-16 locks for use with either LS6 springs or COMP 918 / PAC 1218 springs.

Trying to save money for a forged bottom end, practically busted my budget on just stock shit and I found new LS6 springs from GM for 59.99. COMP and PAC are twice the money and more.

Thanks for input

Just get some lt4 springs and use the stock hardware. Save the Comp stuff for future use, sell or return it. The ls6 spring should also work and you can even use the stock locks with the 787 and the stock spring seats with the ls6 spring.

You can run Ls6 Springs with that. Considered buying that its a billet crane cam nice stealthy sleeper smooth idle with good mid-range. If you decide to run 1.6 rocker arms with it The following allow higher valve lift. Lt4 springs limited to .525 Lift but With normal clearance before coil bind I calculate .515" lift maximum. I'm going with 1.52 Rocker arms.
That cam with 1.6's would be .531 lift and would idle nice for the wife and get better gas mileage than a larger cam with more overlap such as the trick flow or other 223-224 Intake duration cam. It will have nice driveability but less top end power than a larger cam although mid range should be strong. That cam is billet not cast and that was a good buy you cannot buy other mfg cam with those specs for that crane billet cams run $400+ new.

These work nice with CC503's and smaller.

I bought my components individually as I could afford but a kit is better.
LT1 VALVE SPRING KIT Includes: SPRINGS, RETAINERS, LOCKS & CUPS. - Alex's Parts Sales

You will need new spring locator cups for the LT1 aluminum heads with beehive 918's Pacs or the LS6 's. LS6 springs have slightly lower seat and open pressure than the Comps or PACs.

You bought retainers

BEEHIVE VALVE SPRING RETAINERS FOR 7 DEGREE 11/32" APPLICATIONS - Alex's Parts Sales

They sell the springs and hardened cups call and tell them you need the Hardened spring cups for beehives on Lt1 heads.

Don't sweat the torque plating here is an alternative

Lt4 hotcam is billet and costs about $230 last time I checked. It's 218/228 with .525 of lift using 1.6 rockers. With 1.5 rockers it would be at about .498 lift.

More info on the Ls6 Springs this lists seat pressure at several install heights

Post#9

Z06 springs vary a bit over the years, but they will measure:
1.80" = 80 to 100 lbs
1.77" = 91 to 108 lbs
1.74" = 100 to 117 lbs
1.70" = 110 to 120 lbs
