Seemed like the heads were going to be a restriction that was going to make my doubt everything I've done. SO, I called the guy I got the intake and tb from and purchased his lt4 heads (legit GM, I checked the casting #) that have been ported and have 202/160 valves (flow tested at 310cfm), beehive springs, and Comp Cams 1.6 roller rockers. He also threw in the Comp Cams 07-467-8 cam (576/570lift, 230/236dur, 113lsa). Now I have the entire top end off his 383 stroker lt1. I think that I will be much happier...I hope! Hoping that this combo with a m6 and 4:10 or 3.73 gears (I haven't decided yet, thoughts?) works well. Plan is next weekend to fire it up. What do you guys think? Also still stick with the stock injectors to fire up before a tune is done?
I'm still following but you haven't checked-in in a long time. What has your progress been since you last posted. Oh and I'm trying to keep this thread alive too! We wanna know........

Kris,
Whats up man? Any good news to hear about? Just curious as I am about to embark on my own journey the same as you. I receive my engine back after 4.5 months. Its been a long time but hey I know it wasn't a hurry and turn it around job either. I told the shop to take their time...and they did. I can send picks hopefully soon but we all here need to see where you're at with your mysterious issues. Let us know TTYS

Fired her up yesterday! Started no problem which made me happy since I've had it apart three times now. Sounds good from what I can hear on open headers! Couldn't let it run too much because open headers, can't hear $hit, i have some wiring I have to relocate due to the headers, and no radiator in it. Now i know she'll run i will install the radiator and reroute the wiring and let her idle for a bit. Just need exhaust and tall valve covers and it'll be ready for a small road test.

Kris,
Its been about a month since our last conversation. Do you have the final diagnosis and have you regained your love for this dang thing we all call the LT1?

not much progress since last update. Again, the motor has been run briefly a few times and all necessary wiring has been rerouted. I have waited THREE WEEKS (grrrrr!!!!) for my otvc wire set from CC Performance which has been my latest hang up. Can't run it with wires on the headers, can't install exhaust before new wire set because y-pipe needs to be removed to get starter in/out, and can't install radiator until after passenger side wires are in due to alternator/ps/ac pump bracket removal, so you can see where the otvc set delay really screwed me. So wdmickjr, you sir are correct...pulling hair out. Good news is wire set is here, bad news is next week I leave for five months. My plan is to get her together enough to hopefully road test it Sunday. We will see. I will let you guys know. Plus if the government doesnt get things figured out with the budget it may have to be sold furlough days dont pay well. USMC, hows yours coming???

...and oh yea, what the hell were the guys at Arizona Speed and Marine thinking when they designed these headers? Steering shaft runs between #1 & #3 primaries and the dipstick is a miserable SOB to reinstall between the #6 & #8 primaries. Not to mention the bi*ch of a time to get them in place...

Kris, mine is coming along very slowly. The engine is almost near completion and my rearend will be rebuilt by next week. I am anxious. I received pics of my engine the other day and it looks puuuurrrrty. The car itself is ready. Its little amount of corrosion has been 98% fixed and repaired. The only thing I haven't done is remove the gas tank but its good plus its full and I didn't want to mess with it. The car all in all looks pretty damn good considering it wasn't a rotisserie resto. I can post pics soon if you wanna take a looksee. Hopefully you can get yours together before you depart. Ttyl

Well, I got it all together this weekend. Although the weather hasn't cooperated for a road test as its been snowing/raining for three days. I did however get to back it out of the garage to let it run up to temperature a few times and drove it back in. Not to mention get to clean the garage that's been occupied with this project for the better side of a year! The engine sounds great, nice noticeable lope from the cam and the Magnaflow exhaust sounds great behind the AS&M headers and cat delete. The wife says its too loud, no such thing! I don't think I will be able to get it onto the road before I leave so there it will sit for another five months. I still do have to do a few things, the PCM needs to be tuned and the fans aren't coming on so I'm suspecting the temp sensor is faulty, but just relieved to have it together and running, and to hear it healthy! Hopefully tomorrow I can shoot a short video of it running and post a link of it....

Well, fortunately I got to take it for a VERY short ride the other day, about a mile LOL, seems to go very well, doesn't have any issues lighting up the rear tires from a rolling start on wet pavement with no clutch usage...just matting the skinny pedal. That's with the stock 3.42's, ought to be a handful with 4.10s! Other than that not much more data other than NO MISFIRES!!!! only codes thrown are for HO2S no activity and EGR failure-both due to deleted items so that good. So when I get home I'll have the lowering kit, rear gears, new tires, and cowl induction hood to do. And the weather will be nicer (August). Good luck USMC, and keep us posted on whats going on with your project!
