Optic armour windshield

Well i went to summit today and got a new windshield for the bird. I have to take old on out anyways to replace the moldig so i figured y not try optic armour hoping to shed some weight off the car. They claim by changing the winshield and the hatch glass can cut 50lbs off the car. Hope im not dum for thowimg so much money at something like that

97 trans am ws6 with only 25k on it, your typical heads and comp cam port and polished intake, pace setter long tubes, borla catbac, 58mm TB 32lb injectors, moser ford 9" with 4.10 gears, SFC,lower control arms,adjustable panhard bar,adjustable torque arm, rear sway bar, 3-1/2 inch drive shaft with Ds loop and poly bushings,finally got traction with new nitto drag radial extremes,410 rwhp 385 ftlbs of torque. And a tune from pcmforless

They are pretty popular with wranglers. The drawback of driving a brick is the rock hits

My question is, are these types of windshields approved for on road use? I ask because last time I checked into these, they were for off road use only.

They are dot approved. So im gueesing. The windahield i got has the little window for ur vin number. They do say for street cars.

Actually they are not dot approved inthought they were. They are for off rd use only but i think its kind of a croc its for political crap. I dont have to worry ablut inspections and i dont drive my car that much maybe 1000 miles a yr im not to worried about it
