U cant even tell its exhaust pipe. But w/e u wanna buy or have a kinked straw go ahead. Mines 3.5 inch from one end to the other. There maybe a pic under member rides of it. Ive checked other forums and even if the pipe gets hot the air moves to quick to really heat up.

Run the car hard, and then check IAT or shoot the pipe with a IR thermometer. Bet its not that hot.

Think of how much air is flowing and then think of how fast it moves through such a short pipe. Not much heat transfer I would guess.

The butt dyno is horribly inaccurate. This is especially true when the ears are involved. Loud exhaust sounds faster, for instance, but isn't necessarily. Similarly, the sucking sound under the hood gives you the impression you are going faster.

For example, several years ago I was at a test & tune with the '57. I wanted to document the difference between open headers and full exhaust. I would make a pass, change the config, make a pass, go back to the first config, make a pass, etc., in the hope of negating weather changes that might affect the outcome. I made 8 passes total, 4 each with open and full exhaust, alternating between them. With the open headers, the car would leap off the line with a roar, really felt fast. With the full exhaust, it would purr off the line and head down track, felt much slower. However, the time slips showed exactly the opposite - 60' was better with the full exhaust, which translated into a quicker ET, by about a tenth. I haven't run open headers since.

Similarly, I conducted an experiment a couple of years later with open element vs. a ducted air config (with full exhaust - didn't bother uncorking the headers with this experiment). Both used the same size air filter element. Again, the config was changed back and forth with each run to offset weather effects. The open element sounded faster, but not sucking hot underhood air into the engine produced better 60' times, and therefore better ETs.

So, unless you show me back-to-back time slips, or back-to-back dyno runs, I'm going to have to call no-joy on all these butt dyno claims.

No dyno numbers, but my Formula definitely seems to like it. It breathes much better.

What your paying for with the FIPK is fit and finish. It works as good as you would expect a CAI to, but it first and looks like a factory part.

I've put all sorts of CAI's on cars over the years. If you want it to look cheap, buy a cheap part. If you want it to fit like stock, pay a little extra. To each their own.

Didn't notice a ****in drop of performance on mine.
And I'm the kinda guy that can notice a gain from installing performance windshield wipers on my car.

But everybody's car is a little different.

buying an air intake used is what i would recommend. as for the guy with exhaust pipe for an intake you can buy aluminum pipe here:

Intercooler Pipe Fabrication - Silicone Intake Systems Auto Parts

i was going to do that but found it hard to get a 3" pipe to squeeze in there and i like the slp dual 2.5" pipes better. i make custom air intakes for vehicles such as this:

thats my daily 2001 mitsubishi eclipse with a 3" intake going into a 4" pipe with a large k&n filter on it.
