What kind of shape was the wiring in on top of the tank? The wires tend to short out or melt. Did you check fuel pressure?

i dont think its the wires because i can send 12 v to the pump by the fuse box and the pump will run..
does if have to be under pressure just to run with the key

You may have a pump that runs but isn't putting out enough pressure to make the car run. You can pick up a pressure gauge and adapters for $20 at the local parts store.
code P0200 is injector control circuit
code P0300 is engine misfire Detected

I'm talking about the GM service manual, there is 2 books both red colored.
If you do have the correct manuals they will run down step by step how to trouble shoot each code your car has thrown. I wish the impalass forum was up and running, you might be able to find somebody able to help you better then I can. I have my manuals but it would take way too long to type out.

I bought mine on ebay.com and I paid something like $45 or $50. Most are used but sometimes you might find a brand new set. Mine was used and had old greasy finger prints on it,but for the most part pretty good shape. The FSM are heads above the books you buy at the parts stores. They have easy step by step instructions a kid could follow.

The other site is finally up and running. I borrowed this from the other site. To test Rent (Free when you return it) a Fuel pressure gauge from Autozone or Advanced auto parts. Then connect it as previously descibed to the Schrader valve A helper turning the key forward (Not starting the car) to do the test would be a plus here.
Fuel pressure testing
1. Remove cap on schrader valve, Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve.
2. Ignition OFF For 10 Secs - AC turned OFF
3. Ignition key ON, Fuel pump will run for approx 2 secs.
(It may be nessasary to cycle the Igniton key OFF and ON more than once to obtain max pressure)
4. Note max pressure on the gauge with the fuel pump running.
Pressure should be between 41-47 PSI
