View Full Version : Yet another Power Window trouble
So, about a month ago my driver side window motor decided it wanted to stop working. After pressing the button down the Express down module starts clicking. So for the lack of wanting to swap window motors (i've donw quite a handful) untill it warmed up and stopped raining. I tried replacing the EDM and it didn't help anything. The EDM was used keep that in mind. So, i tried the switch out of my 95 TA (i know it works) and that didn't do anything. Swap the RAP module.... still nothing. So I say ok its the window motor. Buy a new window motor and put it in tonight. Nothing...untill... I take the plug off of the Pass side to check the motor...it works. Grab a test light and check the plug on the drivers side. Its getting power from both side of the plug depending on which way i click the buttom. The switch supplies the ground while sending current to one wire. Sound familiar you say http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7188 So like i said, i took the motor and put it onto the pass side, and once i came back and put it on the drivers side it went on working. I say thank goodness. Bolt it into the regulator getting ready to bolt that to the door I figured i'll check it again. Nothing   So now i'm pissed.... i drive home tonight w/ both door panels pulled off and w/ the window almost all the way down. Does anybody have anything.....anything.....anything that they can offer. And when I went down the road and tried the switch that was dangling on side of my door :roflmao: it went up a tad... (regulator wasn't bolted in so i couldn't put it up) try it back down.... it goes down a fraction of an inch then stops. I'm thinking its 1 of 3 things.
1. Screwed up wire, have to hook a voltmeter to see the drop in volts when under a load?
2. Bad splice in S263 but thats where the wire splices from the switch to the EDM & window motor going down still doesn't explain the up....
3. Bad ground at G200, i'm really lost though....
BTW: the passenger side does fine from both sides..... so....HELP :dontknow:

What about the contacts in the switch itself?
the poles that stick out of the switch are clean as a whistle.. I'll take a look at the plug/pigtail.
Wow.... i just realized that i'm working on a car thats now at my house. Its odd working on a car thats actually at my house at not at the shop:roflmao: I was about to type "i'll check that tomorrow" :poke:
I just confirmed that all 3 of my uneducated guesses are wrong. The only thing it has left to be is that they sold me a half way bogus motor. And realizing that is like realizing that there was no sandy claws back in the day when you were younger. Its just so hard to believe. Both the wires for the motor have power, the ground is grounding, the switch is working fine, the EDM is working fine. I'm stumped other than a motor.

Yes plz do that. Also the plastic part the the prongs stick out of. The cam that rocks with the switch broke on my car so it wasnt making good contact with the board. That is why i asked.
I think the switch I bought brand new back in 04. It still has the paint very visible on it. She checked out fine. Power on 1 wire constant w/ rockers in rest postition, power on blue wire when rocked one way, power on gray wire while rocked the other. Showing 11.95 volts everywhere w/ my gay battery.

Can you see the wireing on the motor itself?
Getting 11.95 @ both wires on the pigtail that plugs into the motor.
But the SOB worked on the passenger side, switch it over to the drivers and it worked for a little while then stop. Got to be the motor...got to!

Not if it works on the passanger side.
It might have decided to pass on to the other side or take a nap when I switched it over to the drivers. Because it worked before i Micheal Bolted it in the drivers side regulator for about 20 seconds of straight gangsta like switch flipping.

So in other words you were playing with it and broke it?

i'm not quite sure, It works for a couple of seconds at a time now. I went ahead and ordered a new one. Lifetime warranty on the other one, let that bastage not work. I'll experiment w/ it more this weekend or tomorrow. Thanks for the help and support Rich...you tha man

i vote motor. same thing was happening to mine and 4 other friends car and they were all pontiacs of some sort. (i am the only one that was able to fix mine...others are still SOL till i get a day off, been 6 months now!!! ) haha
Well ladies and gentlefolk. The Camaro is fixed...well....not fixed, but I diagnosed the problem tonight. The reason why the window motor would stop and go as it pleased was a bad connection. It was getting plenty of fire to the plug, just not to the motor at all times. Anyone care to guess...the prongs were bent to far out. So i take myself a little screw'n'ma'driver and pry all 4 of the prongs to the middle (2 up and 2 down) and slap her in and she works everytime. Thanks guys for all your help though! This is certainly something to remember. It had me baffled! But from having one motor already replaced on the car before the prongs must have gotten pushed away from the contact on the motor.

ok sorry about highjacking a thread, but i also just went through the h*ll of replacing my driverside window also, BUT previous owner obviously lost the piece that snaps on the back of the window controls so as soon as i popped it off, they all just fell off.....what i basically need is to know which spot does the wires go....as of right now up goes down and down goes up and if i switch them around they start getting really hot, so i figured id ask, before i short something out.....thanks, jon
