Yeah, so I spent about 8 hours yesterday helping my friend install headers on his car... Cut to pieces now!

Went very smoothly and would have taken an hour or so less but we ended up having to take out the driver's side motor mount to get the damn things in. I think he's pretty happy with the new sound, but we didn't get a chance to really take them for a drive yet (at least not on 8 cylinders, hahaha. We realized after we moved the cars back to the parking lots that a plug wire wasn't connected. Ran much smoother after that, haha).

We're taking them for a test-drive this evening, after our final exam today :D

I'll post up a more detailed write-up later...

Yeah, I would be that friend... and what a job. I do love the new sound except for the rasp... LT headers, the 3" Y, and the SLP Loudmouth catback CamTom hooked me up with do that. Any thoughts on options for new sound out there? Limiting the rasp would be nice; he mentioned some options, but I thought it'd be good to hear some other ideas. Thanks!

Was that on an LS1? There's not so much room to work in there, it takes so long mostly because it takes forever to try and get a damn wrench on a bolt

Is that a yes. Is that perhaps contributing to the rasp?

Yeah, we know that's exactly what the rasp is coming from :D. He's basically got two options: 1) take his old SLP dual-dual back from me and put it on (it's just sitting in a corner so I told him he could have it if he wanted to) or 2) I've got a 3" Dynomax bullet to weld in in place of the resonator in the LM catback. I already have on in the leg for the driver's side tailpipe (cuts down on highway drone there) and there's a pretty big difference between the two tailpipes if you get close enough to discern between the two.

We didn't put cats on it because of budget reasons :)

That is funny, I just finnished a LT header and Y pipe install on my buddies car and it took about the same amount of time (7 hours). I was sore the next day.

We did long tubes on an ls1 in 4 hours using a lift.

it took me awhile, but i also completely removed AIR and EGR first. every bolt was rusted like a mofo too

I've heard the Borla XR-1 race mufflers make a great option in place of the LM resonator. I'm actually tempted to do it on mine if I don't dump it for something else.

I have done 3 header swaps on LS1's and all of them went very quickly. No probs at all. Just got to get the car in the air high enough and come in at the right angle.

Yes it does sound much better and I also heard that it sounds great with LT's off road y and the GMMG. The GMMG is just too raspy with a off road y-pipe.

That combo has to be downright unbearable with the rasp.

What LT's did he go with?

duals do sound great... but i am working on getting them over the axle, there is just too much drone in cabin. with no overdrive and a 4000 unlocked stall it can give you a headach quick...
soon as i get all the bends perfect i will probably start selling bolt on true duels ...

SLP's are lovely to install.... when i took my heads off we tried to get them out. The drivers side wouldnt move a inch! So we tried the passanger side.. while we were trying to get that one, the drivers side one FELL out.... damn them LMAO... SLP headers blow for installing!
