possible fuel pump problem

We just got back after a 100 or so mile cruise when I parked the car I could hear a squealing noise coming from the drivers side rear by the gas tank.I shut the car down and didn't start it back up till the next morning and no noise.I haven't taken it out for a cruise yet I'm afraid it may die.Does anyone know of any test or way I can tell if it is the fuel pump?????Any help would be great

First thing I'd do is change the filter.

You'd be surprised what fuel filter will do for you. Mine ran so rough and wouldn't rev over 4k in hard acceleration until I changed the filter.
