I want to replace the f/r speakers (both 6" dia ???) and the small tweeters in the doors for some aftermarket speakers. What is the best brand for our F-bodys? Polk? Kenwood?

Being mine is a '95 hence, a NON-Monsoon setup what do you guys recommend for the best bang for the buck setup and most importantly, a plug-n-play setup? Brands, watts etc...

How about receivers? Any special harnesses etc...

Lastly, do you recommend buying over the internet and installing myself or having some audio shop do it? I'm very mechanically inclined so I'm not afraid to dive into any job - but stereo stuff ahh I can take it or leave it.

I welcome all your thoughts, suggestions and opinions.

Thanks in advance.

your going to have to be creative to get the rears to fit....i bought shallow mount and they are not as shallow as the stock. the stocks are what i would call pancake speakers. I can give you some advice but i am only taking a breif break from my paper that i am going to be up until i go to school writing. i will try to post tomorrow or something.

6.5 Infinity Kappa's, or even the references. I love my speakers. Not running any type of amp on them, and they are crystal clear.

Thanks for the replies fellas but it sounds as if my rear speakers aren't the same as my door speakers???

Are they thinner than the doors? Do I need specials since I have a convertible?

i bought shallow mounts and had to top mount them. It worked perfectly. You will have to take the side panels out and drill out the plastic rivets that hold the speaker grill on and then you will use the sandwich bracket for the screws and top mount the speakers with the grills provided for them. The onlt thing this will effect is how easily your rear seat folds down. I can still get mine down by myself without too much trouble. Its not like it needs to move up and down all the time anyhow. Any infinity sounds great. Components in the from shallow mount in the back. I have a 75X4 alpine v-12 powering all of mine and its amazing. Crutchfield.com is having a sale right now and when you buy speakers from them they give you harnesses and stuff for free so it is plug and play for the most part. Putting the speakers in does not require any special tools or knowledge. The from tweeters...you will need to take the star bracket off the stock one and put it onto the aftermarket tweeter to make them look right using the stock grills for the front doors. (the stock grills are the only easy and good way to go without spending some money on fiberglass and upholstery.) really it is all common sense and i am willing o offer advice if you run into trouble. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oAipRxfv2N6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=1086010CS&g=410 and http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oAipRxfv2N6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=52000&I=1086012SI are what i have. Beware of the Kappa models before mentioned for they have to have an external amplifier to drive them becasue they use a 2ohm impedence. reference will astound you over many other aftermarket speakers and will certainly be pleasing over the stock.

asking what the best speaker in the world is is like asking what the best ice cream is. pure opinion. everyones ears and tastes are different. The stereo in my last car won sound quality competitions left and right, and most people thought it sounded great, but i met a handful of people that thought their sony xplod systems blew it away, and thats ok. your best bet is to go out to shops, take your own cd's, and listen yourself. dont let yourself be sold into a specific brand or speaker based on hype and marketing, let your ears be the true judge.

Boston Z6's, you haven't heard clear unless you heard 4 z6's. $1000 a pair.
