The AC is not getting cold !!! I would take it out of the car but Texas heat isn't fun... I know the compressor is turning on and it gets cold in the mornings. I tried the recharge kit and I have used like a quarter of it, the gauge still shows needs more. Any info would be awesome. Also anyone know a price on the compressor ?
If the compressor is kicking in and kicking out then its low on R134-A. Depending on how big the can is that you bought you will usually have to use close to 1/2 of it ;) You shouldnt have to pull a vacume on the system. It wouldn't be a bad idea to add some of the oil along with it, if the recharge kit doesn't have any in it. Compressors new arnt cheap, i've heard some say thats its over 300. But you can usually get them cheap used.

Okay, I bought the big can that has the "oil" in it. I will try and juice it up if its not raining after I get outta work. I can here when the compressor kicks on and off so I hope this might solve the problem.
when she kicks on and off she's low for sure, if you got the can thats close to i dunno...12" tall and 2 1/2 wide, I usually put 1/2 the can in it. It should come with a gauge to tell you how much you need to add.

Yes, the system must be low. Try to put as much in it as you can, hopefully the 134 your using has Dye in it. All you need to do is let it circulate in the system , then hit it with a uv light. Chances are that the seal on the compressor itself are bad. Mine will hold freon for 2 days and thats it. The casing seals are shot, and turned my compresspr green.

No one has said so i will throw this in there you need to charge the system while the a/c is on max. That way you are filling the sytem not jut the lines.

Got the AC checked, here are the symptoms.
1. The system is going into a vacuum
2. Remove and replace expansion valve, flush condenser, evacuate & recharge
The quote is $567.00 or $1,098.00 with compressor.
Does anybody think this is a good price?
To me I think I am going to tough it out and get a new vehicle next year. Hopefully the summer will be kind. haha

531 bucks for a compressor and installing it... they're out to screw somebody. I say hell no on the "is this a good price" what'd you take it to a dealership or something!?

Nah I took it to Carlisle Auto Air, they "specialize" in AC

Yeah, that is outrageous. I'd get a second opinion.
The best thing to do is have a jiffy lube pull a vacuum on the system and evacuate all the r134 and oil, then recharge with the proper amounts of each. I'd replace the orifice tube just to be on the safe side...it is just a little pencil shaped screen that can get clogged up.
The jiffy lube will be able to tell you if the system will hold a vacuum, and if it doesn't, then you know you have a leak somewhere, either a bad seal somewhere or the compressor itself.

Yeah he said it had a leak and its going to need a new hose although he didn't specify which one.

What I do is get my own parts, do my own work, but then have an A/C capable shop do the charging of the system. Unless you have a 250 dollar set of A/C gauges you're not going to be able to get the charge right yourself..and improper charges can lead to blown out seals, failing compressors, etc.
My Blazer's compressor just went out last month. Dealer said $850. I bought a brand new compressor from the auto parts store for $225, installed it myself, then had Jiffy Lube vacuum and charge it. I spent a total of $430, and it is ICE cold :D

True, I like to do my own stuff when I can. I am going to try and take it to the car dealership I used to work at this weekend and see if they can vac. the system, if I can do that and fill it check for leaks then I can go from there just to see for myself.
