OK has anyone, or know of anyone who has found a way to fix the tiny problem of the headlights going up when you turn the parking lights on? Never a big deal to me before, but I had an alarm put in , and now everytime I arm it, the headlamps flip up and down. It really sucks, and on top of that I have motors that make a whole lt of noise. An input will help!!

Well, the lights popping up with the parking lights, and making noise is the headlight gears. There are several methods of fixing this...but you can run a search as easily as me ;)

BTW, this is all covered in the FAQ :)

Uhmm..dude... Your headlights shouldn't be popping up with the parking lights. I have 3 TA's, 93, 95, and 02 and none of them do it. They shouldn't be activated untill you click the headlight switch.

I just did my two on my 95 TA on wednesday, works like a charm

Yeah, the gear going bad will make them go up with the parking lights.

Yeah, the gear going bad will make them go up with the parking lights.

The headlight control module doesn't have power supplied to it to make the lights go up to turn the worm gear to turn the round gear untill the headlight switch has been flicked on the headlight position. The ones in my 95 were SHOT and it didn't do it.

The headlights have 2 stops per headlight. 1 stop going up, and 1 going down, the headlight motor has to be under a strain for it to kick the headlight module out. So the linkage gets caught on the stop when its going up or comming down causing the module to kick out.

:dontknow:

Trust me, somehow the gears do effect it when you turn it to the first notch. Mine did it for months until I swapped out the gears, same on two friends cars. Although, I have seen other guys with totally shot gears and they don't try and popup with the parking lights...so I'm not sure what the medium is.

Ok well I did his freefix, an it worked on one motor. So I guess I have to ge his brass sprocket to fix the other one. And now the headlights don't go up anymore when the parking lights are turned on. Thanks for your help guys!!!

It was weird I gotta tell ya, but I ordered the brass gear for it, and as soon as it comes in I'll let cha know how it comes out.

I put two of them in on wednesday, it took around 45 minutes to do one headlight. Thats with the cover glued back on and held tight with C-clamps, the PITA of the project is getting it back on. Just make sure the piviot point of the headlight arm is to the back of the car. I didn't read the directions and had a bit of a time with that.

Thanks for the heads up man. We shall see what happens. Brent live pretty close to me, so I should have that gear in a couple of days.:LS1LT1flag:

I had this problem and thought I had traced it back to the control module but then someone turned me onto Brents page. Sure enough the brass gear solved the problem.

I recommend getting 2 as the other one will go. I did the first several months ago and the other one yesterday. Couple of things.

1. Make sure that you clamp down the little tabs holding the motor on so it is secure or you can ruin the brass gear. To much and they will crack the plastic (ask me how I know)

2. Don't take the motor out if you can help it the springs holding the contacts to the amature go boing and are a pain to put back in. Almost lost the little bas***ds twice.

3. When you crack the plastic make sure you get any little bits that might fall into the gear housing out, I know duh.

And get this, somehow I managed to reverse the polarity of the motor so the headlighs were going back and forth, one up one down, had to cut and splice the wire backwards to fix it?????:dontknow:

Talk to Brent. he is the man (order two and save yourself doing it again)

Latest catch, I used white lithium grease instead of the thicker lubricant in the housing and now the headlight gets stuck occasionaly going down. have to do it 2-3 times now for full closure. So make sure to reuse or get the right stuff.

For some reason it seems the drivers side gear wears out faster than the passenger side. I replaced the drivers side with a brass one a few years a go...but the passenger side has never given me any issues at all.

It goes without saying, I have a 94, and the passenger side is hosed.
