I am in the market for a new car finally and i am looking to spend about 18,000 at the max. I have looked at a lot of GTO's and i am just wondering what times the ls1 Gto will run stock, how it handles, and if anybody has had any bad apples that they know of. I am also thinking about a 2002 trans am or firehawk with lower miles. But to tell the truth i am still going to be in college for a while being i am still a freshman so i am looking for something that has a more sophisticated ride than my formula. It handles great and all but it is very rough and i want something that will handle about as well but ride really smooth but still have ample power. M-6 FTW. Please let me know what you think. i am hoping its atleast as fast as my formula converty A-4.

LS1 Gto's will run high 13s. They are heavier than an Fbody, but they handle very well and ride quality is a whole lot better than an Fbody.

thanks for the info. I went and testdrove an ls2 today (i know i cant afford it but the guy offered to let me drive it) and it is balls to the walls. Maybe by this time next year i will have the cash to buy a used LS2 m-6.

I'd get one for a driver - can't beat the LS2 GTO. Plus I know a guy who can put a turbo kit on it.

I thought about it but when I found out that you have to pay a gas guzzler tax I said **** it. The corvette and the gto have the same size engine and there is no tax on it.:dontknow:

you are not going to find a GTO for around 18,000 - i dont think. Firehawk neither. '02 TransAm, maaaybeee. with low miles, i dunno. but if your really looking for ETs, i would think the GTO would not be a good choice due to it's weight. also, to each his own, but i would be morally opposed to buying the GTO in protest of GM thinking that they could slap some GTO badges on a bloated Cavalier and expect everybody to jump for joy.

i think they're comin' out with the Cavalier SS next year.
