View Full Version : Tool advice - geared wrenches
Hoping I'm not posting in the wrong forum so Mod, please move if it is.
Can someone guide me on what to look for regarding a set of ratcheting wrenches?
I just bought a set of stub length flex head locking ratcheting craftsmans. They are fine but I'm thinking about buying a set of regular length double boxed end ratcheting wrenches and hope someone can warn and point me in the right direction. They are kind of an investment....
Thanks.
The double ended ratcheting wrenches are a beatiful thing  At our shop we have I think 2 SAE and 2 Metric sets hanging up on the wall. They're damn good wrenches, we've had them for over 2-3 years now and havn't broken one. I use them a lot with the underdash of my cars and in very tight places. Try replacing a water pump and front cover seals on a 4.9 Cadilliac  They also have this spot on the very tip top of the arch on the bone like wrenches (what i have) that you can press with your finger (no bs) and the wrench will turn freely. It can be a bit of a PITA in a very few spots. But I like them.

x3 on their opinion, makes it so much easier in tight places.

SEARS. mmmmmm Thats were mine came from. I got the 20 degree on one side straite on the other. Expensive thought.
I've been perusing the tools out there and am pretty sure i don't want the 30 degree sweep type. there are too many places where I won't be able to move the wrench enough to get 30 degrees of rotation for the ratchet mechanism to reach the next cog. I haven't seen any of those double boxed end wrenches advertise the degree of sweep; some boxed + open end ratchet wrenches advertise 5 degrees (Ala Craftsman) but I don't want to waste money on wrenches that duplicate what I already have. Buying an open end wrench on one end of the ratcheting boxed end is a waste for me. That's why I started this thread; to see if anyone has a lead on a good set of double boxed end ratcheting wrenches with the close ratio gearing. Thanks.

You can go Snap-On or MAC and get what you're looking for, but you're probably going to start having to donate blood after work to pay for them... :)
