" I had a GM Rep contact me today with some of the answers to the questions I posed yesterday regarding what it will take to get the crate motor operational for retrofit/replacement purposes. Here's the skinny thus far:
* no starter with the motor (the LS1/2/6/7 starter are interchangeable!)
* no external dry sump (fittings should be available to plumb aftermarket unit)
* no external accessories (PS, Alt, etc.) except for water pump. The bad news here is that they are LS7 unique
* no fuel rail beauty covers with the LS7 insignia
* crate motors will also use the same production 58x reluctor wheel
* no PCM or wiring harness are available at this point
* the edict "from the top" is that no crate motors will be made available until the first Z06's physically hit the dealer showroom floors....this means any slide in the Z06 availability will affect the crate motor's availability as well.
Well if you can stomach all of the good news listed above there is a bright light on the horizon. When I expressed my frustration at not being able to obtain a "plug & play" crate motor he told me that "rest assured....this lack of compatibility is being addressed as we speak by GM and they are hopeful that by the time the motor is actually available for public sale that these details listed above will be ironed out either in the form of a supplementary kit containing what is necessary or at least a list of part numbers of what is needed to make it work"
