Does anyone know for certain if an LS7 oil pan can be mated to an LS2 block?

hmm thats a good question they are both wet sump as i recall, but i don't see what advantage an ls7 oil pan would have over an ls2. out of curiosity, why do you want an ls7 oil pan?

The LS7 is not only a dry sump system, but it's an awesome configuration. No external pumps, and it uses a single 2 stage pump in the front of the block (standard LS2 location) to accomplish lubrication pressure.
The special LS7 oil pan has the desired 'all internal' engineering for a compact dry sump system. All the oil lines are routed internally through the pan to the pump, and out through the pan again to the reservoir. From the external reservoir, the oil is routed back into the pan through a different passage and back to the second stage of the pump for pressurization, where it is fed straight into the upper block and priority mains.
It's a very compact and clever setup that I would like to capitalize on without using an LS7 block and all the upstairs work that must come along with it. If the pan will mate, and the oil pump is compatible, I'll certainly go the extra mile in this category.

sounds like a nice setup, with some interesting possiblilties :drive:

in that case, it will depend how the ls7 block is size wise compared to the ls2 (of course that obvious). but there is no reason why the ls7 shouldnt have the same bolt pattern to the ls2. the c5-r is just a generation ahead of the ls1 and i believe they have many parts in common. so why not the ls2 and ls7? lets just call them kissing cousins. hope it works!!!!!! man im excited to see how that works out, keep us informed.

The other concern is the possible incompatibility between oil pumps, since the LS2 uses a single stage gerotor pump, and the LS7 uses a 2 stage gerotor. If they thought ahead, they made sure that although the pumps are different, they have the same dimensions, ports, and bolt patterns, etc.
It feels like such a large 'if', but I can't help but be so hopeful. Why? Because it would just totally kick ass, that's why.... 8)

That sure is pretty, let us know how it goes!

anyone if the ls1 and the ls6 have the same bolt pattern for their oil pans? i figure they the 1 and the 6 do then that would be a good sign that the 2 and the 7 do as well.

1 and 6 are interchangable.
2 and 7 should be....but who knows. see if you can find a pic of the underside of an ls2 block. is the oil routing going to match up w/the internal routing that is done w/the ls7 dry sump system?
the catch is that they engineered the ls7 and the c6r motor hand in hand this time, so they'll be much more similar. the leap between the ls2 and the c6r motor won't the be the same as the ls1 to c5r.
