It has already been said that the transmission will be a 6-speed. That is almost a given. However, will Chevrolet offer options as far as gear ratios? 3.42's ? 3.23? 3.73's? 4.10's ? I am doubting 4.10 as I'm not sure they could reach the proposed top speed with that high gearing.

Post your opinion or ideas.

I doubt there will be any options, but who knows. I'd say 4.10's definately not. Maybe 3.42's and 3.73's?

I would think 3.42 or 3.73 as well no way it would be able to go 200 with 4.10's.

No word on the gears yet, anyone have an idea? Most of the mag articles only talk about the motor and tires.

if she's going to hit 200mph with 500hp + weight + driver she's going to need 2.xx'ers in my opinion. but I am no expert.

3.42's would be sweet as hell though. I still got 273s in my z28.

i read somewhere that for a corvette to safely go above 200, it needs 600+ hp

"Race cars capable of going 200 mph usually have at least 650 hp, about 350 of which goes into overcoming air resistance. It is probably possible to go 200 mph with a car in the 450-500 hp range, but such a car would have very good aerodynamics; expensive, low-friction internal parts; and low rolling resistance tires, which are designed to have the smallest possible contact patch like high performance bicycle tires, and are therefore not good for handling."

Some good insight here:

I think the stock Z06 will have a good chance considering it's light, has good aerodynamics (hence why they kept the coupe style for '06 vs. FRC style from '99 - '04) and makes good power (505hp).

im betting it hits 190, the magical 200 number just doesn't seem plausible with only 505. I mean most Ferrari's are hard stretched to get to 200, and only like 2 of them can do it, F40 and Enzo.
