DSM - Diamon Star Motors
Includes Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Lazer.
I'm not much of a DSM guru, but what do you guys think about them? Are they just faggy chick cars or do you consider them to be a credible street machines? I've never really given them a 2nd look, but one of my buddies had one and swears by DSMs.
Let's hear your opinions.

I used to have a 95 Talon. For what it is it/s not bad, but I never thought of it as a "street machine" by any means.

I have a really good friend who has one and swears up and down by them. To his credit he does have a Vortec S trim 355 LT1 Z28. But the 91 Talon he has has all the goodies. Built transmisison, motor, upgraded turbo, downpipe, exhaust etc. Manual boost controller, aftermarket blow off valve etc. That car flat gets down. Something to be said about a AWD turbo car that launches harder than most cars I have ever ridden in.

Another thing, I think that they can be really put to good street use, but it takes quite a bit to get them to the level most people think of in today's street scene. I'd love to have one to play w/ b/c on the street... you are not gonna out holeshot one of them IMO. Or any other decent powered AWD car.

so are we only talking about the 1st gens?
otherwise the eclipses are nice up untill the just current body style, the one prior to the 05/06 whatever year they are on now body style
street they are pretty awsome, but i wouldnt build one up for the drag strip only, and ive never heard anything about DSMs on a road course; makes me think they are not that great at handleing
EDIT: i just looked it up, 2000 was the year they became a ghey chick car, before then however a built GSX is quite a challenge

They are all DSMs. Every gen. Those were all just made together as the originals, but the eclipses are still DSMs.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Me and my car buddies are pretty much three groups- DSM, Mustang, and F-Body. The Mustang guys are kind of just a joke, they talk a lot of shit but never really back it up. But us F-Body guys are always arguing. It's usually what does what with bolt-ons, or an all out Shepard vs Duke/Harlan, arguing about performance potential either way.. I wanna get some DSM guys' opinions on this.
The weak point is pretty much their tranny, right? GSXes don't remind me of being bad cars, but I don't know much about them.

If i was going import i would go a integra type-r route and all alumi the rotating. DSM's suck if you ask me.

i think there neat little cars but there all pretty ugly IMO...i just dont see any style to them and to have a nice street car u need style and speed....style to get the women and speed to win the races

DSMs are a much better platform IMO... AWD, and a built turbocharged motor.

the only ones i consider a good car are the 2nd gen GSX. i seriously looked for a GSX for a little while while i was looking for cars when i thought i would not be able to get a T/A. there is something i like about the look of the later 2nd gens, and it would be fun to have a little, lightweight car that not many expect to be fast. i still might get one one day just to build it right to show what can be done without ricing it out. i have always liked the idea of having AWD.

Built they are definetely credible street threats. I've seen one that has the word 'EIGHTS' on his license plates. Nuff said.

i know what a DSM is, but when he listed off the talon, eclipse, and laser, i think of the 1st gens, simpily becuase the laser never made it past 1st, so i was just asking if he wanted to know about just those 3 cars, or all DSMs

I like the 1st and 2nd gen Turbo AWD cars. Those were pretty cool and looked good too.
The latest versions of the Eclipse are chick cars.

Jesus, do we have to dissect it so much?
DSMs as in all DSMs ever made.

Exactly.
Just b/c a 77 Trans Am isn't a 4th gen doesn't mean it's not an F-body.

well in your post you used those 3 cars as an example, so i was simiply asking if you wanted to know about those 3 or all DSMs, then someone had to tell me what a DSM is, i know what a DSM is, in fact i work with a guy that talks non-stop about buying a 2nd gen eclipise gsx and running 32 psi through it
i just want to slap this guy, never shuts up

I don't need to "know" about anything, I'm starting up a topic for discussion. I was posting the names there for the people who weren't aware of what a DSM was, that's all.

There's one AWD Talon in NJ that runs high 8s.

See? That's respectable. A fart can, shopping cart wing and more decals than a NASCAR isn't.

My favorite DSM is the 2nd gen Talon T-Si or whatever it was, the AWD turbo. The body looks clean and short as compared to the latter 2nd gen Eclipses where the body looked much taller due to the larger front grill. I wouldn't mind having one of those, but IMO the rest suck.

dsm's are very respectable cars especially considering they have the 4g63 motor which is also in the EVO...as far as it being a DSM or not DSM's are considered to be 99 or earlier Eclipses, Talons, or lasers. Once the eclipse was made by itself it was no longer a DSM. you guys should check out this website www.dsmtuners.com if you want more info
