Hey gang!! have 2. an 80, restored, and a DD 92 LT1 w/loud lifter noise and a "strange" problem with door/light "chimes". It works when I have heavy sun-load. Need to adjust those lifters, anyone out there with experience?? Are they the same as all the old small blocks??

if you have an LT1, there really isnt an adj. for the lifters, theres a valve lash adjustment.
if its the lifters making the noise they may be clogged, and you might want to replace/ clean them. but probably replace.they are hydrualic roller lifters.
im guessing this is a high mileage engine?

Its the same difference...the adjustment is to the pre-load on the lifter plunger. ;)

The easiest way I've found is to start the car and slowly turn each rocker nut till they quiet down.

Move the cylinder to TDC, then adjust the rocker down until the pushrod doesn't move up/down any longer (zero lash), then add 1/2 turn.

the pre-load for the lifter preload, is basically letting the lifters soak in oil, upside down. atleast thats what the proceedure they gave us at school

I'd think of that as more of a "pre-pump" than a pre-load. Think about it. You're not putting any load on the lifter at all by soaking it in oil, you're just pre-pumping the lifter (allowing it to fill to capacity with oil). Once you have your valve lash set, the ensuing pressure being exerted on the lifter at that point is the pre-load.
