I HAVE A 97 Z WITH A 6 SPEED IT HAS SOME MODS TO IT .. LONG TUBE HEADERS .. 410 GEARS .. IGNITION ACCEL ... COLD AIR INTAKE .. ROCKERS MY QUESTION IS IM GOING TO GET A A PROCHARGER WITH INTERCOOLER KIT AND WANTED TO KNOW PROS+CONS ON THE SYSTEM ITS NOT A DAILY DRIVER AND ONLY HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT THANX FOR ANY INPUT ......

Well, obviously, the horsepower gain is going to be the prominent pro. With 51k miles, you will get to enjoy the boost for a while before you blow the engine especially since it isnt a dail driver. This is of course, provided that you don't run any higher that 6 psi. Some people may tell you 8 psi is ok on stock internal but is pushing it. I disagree, 8 is too much in my opinion. So here's a breakdown
Pros /Cons
HP gain /Gas mileage will suffer
TQ gain /Continuous stress on the engine will lead to its demise

Oh yeah, I strongly recommend buying an MSD BTM(boost retard module), it can retard timing up to 3 degrees which will help prevent detonation. It will add to your motor's life span.
How exactly do you have a 5 speed z28? Typo, or some sort of tranny swap?

YEA NEW TO THIS STUFF I FIXED ITS A 6 SPEED LOL SO YOU CAN ADJUST THE BOOST THEN ? I APPRECIATE THE REPLY TOO !! THE MSD BTM IS ADJUSTABLE JUST ON THE BOX OR ? SO YOU ARE SAYING TO RUN 6PSI SINCE BOTTOM END IS STOCK ...... AND I HAVE PULLYS ON THE CAR TO WILL THEY INTERFEAAR WITH ANYTHING ? THANX

pulleys wont interfere. i would run 6 psi like snigga said max. im running 7.5 and im willin to be it will blow soon. although i usually run high octane/booster and im at relatively low altitude. definitley get the msd box. snigga already explained to me that superchargers advance timing and offset power that way. so retarding it will help you gain even more power and keep everything running smooth.
i dont, however, know about the fuel mileage thing. i got 18/24 miles per gallon driving mine daily with the SC on 7.5 thats conservative driving mind you. although now i get around 14/21 with the convertor and trans. definitley get the procharger its amazing. they are so beast! my friends just crack up whenever theyre in my car because it pulls SOOO hard. and i dont even thinks so! (guess im used to it) good luck dude!

im not worried about fuel milage lol yea that msd is for sure going in !! thanx for the reply

were just here to help and get help to hombre! well i would get a custom tune from madz28 or pcmforless. you will most certainly need those!

duty
01-16-2007, 07:55 PM
dont laugh whats that ?

Zupercharged28
01-16-2007, 07:59 PM
well just to keep the computer up to date since the added power and timing is going to change QUITE a bit (fuel pumps, pressure, timing, flow, just all around general flow) AND youll get even MORE power. and im not laughing! a tune will just keep you running good and fast

i did that thing with the hyper tech tuning was that good enough or do i need to do more ?

01-16-2007, 08:46 PM
Hypertech is not even close to a mail order tune.

duty
01-16-2007, 08:55 PM
so im in new jersey who where do i go ?

96slow6
01-16-2007, 08:57 PM
pcmforless.com or madz28.com

Zupercharged28
01-16-2007, 08:59 PM
yes youl have to send it away or borrow a pcm and swap em. i have hypertech to. i only use it to reprogram for tire size hahaha

duty
01-16-2007, 09:08 PM
is thier a diffrence between the 2 places ?

Zupercharged28
01-16-2007, 09:27 PM
meeh not really, theyre both pretty good and i think the prices are the same!

duty
01-16-2007, 10:23 PM
how about fuel system is that adquet ?

Zupercharged28
01-16-2007, 10:28 PM
yes should be fine as long as youre just puttin that procharger on there at 6 psi. any more power and youll need to upgrade some stuffs! fuel rails, pump, injectors, etc. wait. you might need an FMU or injectors with that sc. your choice. both will make it work perfect

duty
01-16-2007, 11:18 PM
yea im gonna keep @ 6 i dont want to blow the bottom out till i build a new engine i just dont want the thing to lean out on me !!!!!! im going to send the computer to that mad place i like what i seen and read !!

Snigga
01-16-2007, 11:41 PM
If you know a place that can do it, I would recommend a dyno tune. It is the most effective way to go, tuning wise. You won't need a FMU or anything with a dyno tune. They will also be able to ge the most power out of the motor that way to. If you know of any local F-body shops near you or performance shops with a dyno, give em a call and see if they do it.

CHRIST! i was waiting for this guy. where have you been this thread needs you!

Snigga
01-16-2007, 11:44 PM
As far as injectors, you won't need bigger ones, especially not if you get the dyno tune. If you plan on doing some other mods later on though, it won't hurt to bump up the injector size now.

Sorry, it's so rare when someone actually posts in my section. So when I go to work and stuff, I don't feel a need to jump on the computer real quick. But the site is growing pretty fast, guess I should start doing that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say. What hypertech piece are we talking about? Not the PTM is it? Hypertech's power programmers are mostly desgined for stock motors with light mods (bolt-ons). If you have something like that that stays connected to your PCM, get it out. It will kill your power gains with a S/C. The shitty factory tune will actually net you a few more horsepower with a supercharger than hypertech's programmer will. Either way, you still want a dyno tune if possible.

Zupercharged28
01-17-2007, 05:23 PM
exactly. dyno or a niceeeeeee detailed madz28/pcmforless tune. i only use the hypertech for my gearing and tires

duty
01-17-2007, 07:01 PM
i just sent the pcm to mad so we will see how that works for now till i bolt the charger on

Zupercharged28

oh damn! this man isnt messin around! he gets it done and gets it done right! nice dude! let me know how she runs when you get it back for sure i think im going to do the same after i get my gears

It's funny you say that, because you aren't the first to call me sniggles. An old friend of mine has called me sniggles since I ever got the nickname Snigga. Must be a woman thing to make a nickname "cutesy", right (B/S)low?

Zupercharged28
01-22-2007, 04:24 PM
hahaha grims why do you have to be so cocky? oh thats right, youre making up for the fact that youre missing one. BNAHAHA just kidding. im getting 10 average and atleast HALF of that is highway. ive decided to look into my O2s and my FMU too. maybe have to get rid of that FMU all together and get 42's. who knows! im unpredictable like that.

You don't need 42s and it probably wouldn't help the gas mileage. The FMU is useless if the tune is done well enough. Guess you'll find out when the PCM gets back.

Zupercharged28
01-22-2007, 09:09 PM
haha yes. ill let you know. i might just get rid of the FMU anyways since its such an unreliable source. too many things can go wrong with that piece of crap.

stupid ? lol whats an fmu ?

Snigga
01-22-2007, 10:37 PM
Fuel management unit. Usually comes in supercharger/turbocharger kits to give your fuel a fighting chance at being the correct amount (never is). With the right tuning, they end up doing nothing, so you then remove them.

Zupercharged28
01-22-2007, 10:37 PM
fuel measurement unit or something like that. basically it pressurizes my fuel so i can get enough of it to the motor. its an alternative to fuel injectors which are smarter, more reliable, an more expensive!

Zupercharged28
01-22-2007, 10:38 PM
or is it fuel management unit? hmmmm
