I want to replace my factory t56 driveshaft on my 96 formula. I want a driveshaft that is alittle stronger but perfectly balanced. Any suggestions.

I bought one from Lingenfelter about six years ago. I had thrown the tack-welded balance weight off the shaft, and above 80 it vibrated you out of the seat. 3.5" aluminum, I think I paid $350.00. It is great, and a direct bolt in to a stock car. GM made one too, and the owners manual recommended using it if speeds over 100 mph were anticipated. The balance weight fell of mine (factory shaft) at 150+ and I thought the car was going to shake apart. As a side note, my friend installed a steel shaft in his '92 with a T56 and 9" against my recommendation. It now has a 3.5" aluminum shaft. At excessive shaft rpm, a stock steel shaft will bow out and can actually slip off the transmission output shaft. I know of late model pickups doing this, but those shafts are very long in extended/crew cabs with one piece shafts. If you go up in gear ratios, this gets worse, as the shaft speed increases at the same mph you were doing before the gear swap. My Lingenfelter shaft has been over 6000 rpm with no vibration whatsoever.

Are you looking for aluminum or steel?

Im am looking more for durability than weight. I will be doing drag strip duty maybe 2 times a month.

Stick with steel then. I got mine from our sponsor Driveline Solutions. Tell Scott you are a member here and you'll get his best deal.
