as my noob post stated i'm looking to snag up an LT1 car. i'm going with an sts setup with eventually going with a built shot block and trans but i need a rear that can up up with the abuse. what size is the camaro rear and what does it take to hold up 600RWHP? i looked at summit and they offer an eaton posi (which my stang has and i'm happy with) but they also offer 28 spline moser axels. are these axels strong enough to put up with 600HP on the strip? also, what is stock gear ratio on an LT1 car? i need info!

thanks LS1LT1!

Most here will tell you to switch out to at least a 12 bolt. Some do say that a 10 bolt will hold 400-450 if built right. The gears are usually 273-323 for auto and 342 for M6 cars. Other than 10 bolts your choices are 12 bolts(moser or strange) being popular and the tried and true Ford 9 inch. The newest player being Strange's Dana 60. Do some research here and you will find your answers.

Good luck

If you build it right you can get the 10 bolt to handle the power you are talking about. It just takes everything to be replaced and the axle tubes welded to the center diff. housing.

Don't go by what everyone else tells you about the 10 bolt. Just because they had problems does not mean you will.

I have to disagree, You can do what ever you want with the 10 bolt, but 7.5x" ring gear is simply to small and will break. The axle tubes rarely break...so that won't help you much. The 10 bolt can't even hold up with stock power with slicks and a M6...Let alone 600! If you put money in that rear it will be like flushing it down the toilet.

I had great luck with my 10-bolt on the first couple hundred passes with this combo. And then this happened:

Ring gear may need some TLC

Automatics are considerably easier on the rear, and a 1.65 60 foot isn't to bad. The main poster didn't say which tranny he has so I'm assuming worst case scenario that he has a M6. And by your mph I would guess you have about 400-450 horse power?

Plan on spending a tad over 2k for a decent rearend. There are sites where you can get a 9inch or a 12 bolt with all the brackets welded on for 2200 with whatever gear you want. Also with that kind of power you will need a some tranny and suspension upgrades.

Ya the best 60' is a 1.63. Fairly stock suspension and on small radial tires (which probably make it worse since there is no give). Not sure what this motor is making for sure. The car weighs 3650 down the track.

There has also been some people converting a Ford 8.8 to run in our cars. Kinda pricey to modify everything if you can't do it yourself but makes for a nice rearend. I love 9in's (differential guys, don't get any nasty thoughts lol), mainly for the ease of gear change. You can have a spare diff sitting around with 4.10's for the track and run a 2.73 on your highway trips lol
