hahaha GOOD QUESTION! umm i believe a 4L60E is a 700R4, just electronically controlled. both have overdrive and what not. id rate them the same, but it all depends on your application!

They're the exact same tranny, just the 4l60e is electronically controlled whereas the 700r4 is not...

Some of the later 4l60e's have different pistons made out of different materials and also have updated parts as well.
If you are thinking of putting a 4l60e in a car that currently runs a 700r4; it will take some fun inventing. Need a pcm for sure that is compatible with the 4l60e. The 700r4 has like 3 wires running to it where as the 4l60e has a bunch. Around 12-14 wires. :D

^ What he said. 700R4 used a TV (Throttle Valve) Cable to control up and downshifts via line pressure. It tells the tranny when and how hard to shift. A misadjusted one is not a good thing either lol. The 4L60E is GM's updated version using the PCM to control up and down shifts via throttle position sensor/speedo/engine rpm and engine load via map sensor.

Not when they are built correctly they are at least as strong as the th350 in fact those of you who have been in both may have noticed there are many similarities :roflmao:

Ya the 4L/700 are very similar to the TH350 inside, just as the 4L80E and TH400 have the same basic internal structure, a TH400 with overdrive lol. Just the $L60 is more expensive to build to hold the power than a TH350 (in my experience). 200's are also good when built. Popular Pontiac swap
