Ok guys, I'm building a 350 sbc bored .040 over. All the specs are listed here (http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6210).

To make a long story short I bought a complete drag car for a steal from a friend who was having trouble with the engine. I pieced it out and I'm basically getting my 350 built for free.

He was running an NX plate system thats adjustable for a 100-200 shot (I think.) I know little about nitrous but I'm thinking of running a 100 shot in the 350 which was built to handle it (forged pistons, chrome moly rings, dual pattern cam, etc.) I've never run nitrous before, but who wouldn't if they had a complete system for free?

I have heard chatter in nitrous threads about "progressive" shots. The system I have is not currently set up for that, but since it is a weekend warrior that will see limited track use, I would rather a progressive shot.

Is there a conversion kit that I can purchase that will allow me to run a progerssive shot or do I have to buy a whole new system?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

A progressive controller basically pulses your solenoids to make it a lower shot at different RPMs so you don't blow the tires a way when you launch...then 'progressively' bring sin the rest of the nitrous by slowing the pulse. The kits range from 100-500 if I remember correctly.

Summit should have them right? I'm trying to keep this thing on stock 16x8 RS rims for the sleeper look. I definately don't want to blow the tires away off the line while a civic walks me.

What I use to do is just hold off on the spray until second gear, and it would hold fine.

My personal experience with them, makes me not like-em much. Again thats my opinion, and some people really like them.
What many of the top guys up here are doing now is running the MSD digital 7, which allows you to pull lots of timing at first, which really softens the hit, without worrying about your a/f from solenoids pulsing, or beating up your solenoids from the pulsing.

If you haven't tried your system out yet, then I suggest waiting to purchase one until youve tried it and really determine if you need one or not. Who knows, maybe it will hook without it!

I have never considered running a progressive controller because I'm afraid of premature fuel solenoid failure, the pulsing has to wear them out quick.

Good advice and it is well taken. I'm not the kind of guy that will pull the trigger on the bottle every chance that I get, but some people put me under the impression that I could run a bigger shot more easily with a progressive shot. I would like to run the biggest shot I can on street tires without spinning them. I'm not worried about the engine itself since I built it with all forged internals with the intention of spraying the balls off of it. But I guess I'll try it first and see what she can do.

Thanks Toby

Well, if your fuel solenoid dies it will definitely blow it's balls off hehe

 Yeah, I've never seen it personally, but I bet it ain't fun if its your car!

As I mentioned (I think) before, the solenoids do take a beating and they get changed out relatively often among the guys that do use those progressive set-ups. That said, I have seen cars that were 'set up' for 300 shots go to a max 500 on a progressive setup...

...granted I've also seen intakes pop from a sneeze too.

Hey Devl, how ya doin? I won't be spraying it every time I take it out. So changing the solenoids that often wouldn,t be too much of a problem

Oh devil, check out my post in the non tech board about my mom.

No..you see it could wear out your fuel solenoid and run your car SUPER lean, which would it turn melt your motor into a big puddle of LT1 goo.

I'll prolly just run the 100 shot and let it be done. I may be getting too greedy here. I mean what does a half a second on a car that rarely sees trackdays? Thanks for all the info guys.
