It depends on climate, wheel size, and how much you want to spend. I have been through many sets of tires, all different brands. I used to drive in snow with mine, but now mostly good weather and sometimes rain. BFG KD and KDW's are great, and so are the Goodyear GS-D3. The KD's are pretty bad in heavy rain. I recently upgraded to 17x9.5 and 17x11 wheels, and I bought Sumitomo HTR-Z's to work out fitment issues (rubbing) before I spent the big $. Tire Rack had them in a 315/35-17 for $107 each. They are O.K. in rain but ther is too much flex in the sidewall for how I use the car. But if you just need a cheap tire to get around on you can't beat them for the price.

I have 17x11 inch rims on the back and I have not made any modifications. The car is 1" lower than stock, and I did need to use an adjustable PHB to center the rear. They are extremely close on the insides. With urethane bushings everywhere, if I corner very hard and suddenly I get a little tire rub. I have about 500 miles on this setup, and I plan to pull the wheels in a week or two to check everything. I will clearance wherever the rubmarks are if I need to. Also, The outboard side of the wheels fits nicely within the fender countours. They don't protrude at all. The car looks stock from the sides.

Im a BFG guy and Id say KDs or KDWs. Tirerack is having a sell on the 275 40 17 KDW Is and you can get them for pretty cheap right now. Another decent tire for the price is Firestone Firehawk Wideoval.

DO you want performance or longevity.....that's a BIG Q.

Great recommendations above, but if you want some tires that will last......Michelin Sport Pilot A/S's (expensive, but I have 40K on my set and still have about 40% tread remaining. Nice quiet, but don't hook for CHIT)

Perelli, Yokohama, Dunlop, and their is a replacement tire for the Firestone Firehawk tire. Many, many options available in all sorts of price ranges.

I plan on BFG's or Nitto's for the next set, but if you feel bold w/OEM rear, then try the Mickey Thompson ET streets!

I like my Firestone Firehawk SZ50s (now discontinued) but the turbo overpowers them big time. So I run the Nittos when I want to hook.

I think the break down is this .. how serious are you about hooking ? Nitto 555R's are top of the line without an outrageous price tag .. BTW i have SZ50EP's on the Hawk ... real nice tire if you can find em .. and the Hawk puts 335 down at the rear wheels factory ... the only thing i have done to that one is subframe connectors and a Lid (Both things can be reversed) but the 99 Anniversary wears Nitto's and Dyno's high 390's .. just depends the power in the car if ya ask me
